Not sure if anyone mentioned it but you'll have an easier time finding a job by networking and attending career fairs. Look for business organizations you can join in your area or see if there's any alumni from your university in your area. It's really hard to get a job, even for citizens. I applied to 70 internships in the last year and only had one interview and tons of denial letters. If you have the qualifications, see if you can work as a secretary for a law office. If worse comes to worse and you need cash, call centers always need people. Just be careful because most will try to overwork you and sometimes the nature of the calls can be hard to deal with. (Debt collection, student loans, etc)

That job was taking advantage of you. But right now I am more concerned about your child. The daycare should be reported for negligence and you shouldn't ever go back there again. That being said, there are many 9-5 jobs available and there are also plenty of part time jobs available too. With the holidays approaching there are also temporary seasonal jobs that are looking to hire anyone fast. My suggestion would be to see if there are job fairs in your area, and keep applying online to as many jobs as you can... but keep an eye out in stores too. I know Target/Walmart/other chains are looking for new hires.

If you want to be a secretary, they call it "administrative assistant" now. I just checked for "assistant" in your area and found a bunch, but none pay well (I saw $12/hour a lot). I found a lot of medical offices that needed help, that can be a good place for office work because they pay you a little more for being trustworthy and discrete.

I am seeing a fair amount of early childhood education too (which I know you have a background in... looks like you need a state certification to do it, which you could get).

All of these are in nearby towns though.

What is/was the business of your in-laws? They winter in Florida?

You mention your qualifications again... In the US, if you have a bachelor's degree that puts you at some kind of level, no matter what the degree is in. But I know that some European countries have various programs that end in what I would call a certificate. And if you want to be a plumber, then it doesn't matter that you have a certificate in photography. And it's not worth even mentioning them on your resume unless its relevant for the job (and I am sure it hurts your pride to omit them).

Would you be open to working from home, or via telephone? Some kind of job that doesn't require you being in an office? Lots of communication companies need people for support or customer service. It's not always fun, but having a job that doesn't require a commute could save you a lot of $$.

Are you sure its a break? My kid was put up in a cast supposly had nurses elbow come to find out it was a painful bruise they told me kids bone are tiny and at times are mistaken for breaks vs sprains...

Too bad your not in RI we are hiring a customer service but no calling just handling our clientele and orders.

Medical after two months for you. 2 weeks paid vacation during manditory shut off pays not sooo great but its slow here $14.50 / hour. 40 hours per week 15.00 after probation period 3 months and all state and federal holidays paid...

8-430 or 830-5 thats it and texting lol im texting at my desk lol....

Im your boss lol office manager too bad i would hire you.

Marrienne, have you had anyone check your resume? When we get here, we tend to make our resumes the same way we would do for our own countries. If you want to, remove all the personal information from your resume and send it to me. I will check it out.

My first job in the US was with a temp agency (12/H). They were the first ones to give me an opportunity because, of course, I didn't have any "American Experience". After 3 months.. my boss at the temp job announced she was leaving, her bosses looked at my resume, interviewed me and I became the boss. I've been at this job for 3 years now.

Are you full time? I don't believe they can fire you under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). You should be allowed force majeure when you took your daughter to urgent care. Force majeure is taken if you have an immediate emergency to take care of a family member and you have no one else to take care of it. The best thing is to check with your employer about their policy before assuming they would fire you for taking care of your injured daughter.

FMLA is usually granted after 1 year of being an employee. Not everyone is eligible for it.

I dont have a degree.

That was 3 years ago..

Today i work in office making $20/hr.
