Is Facebook Really Needed?

My fiancee wants me on FB because "everyone else has it." She says VISA people will think it strangely I do not have it, and others have been denied and scrutinized for it.

Is true? FB is ####### and drama to me.

My FB account has been disabled for three years (and I only used it fox six months).

It should not be strange. Does every need to have a XBOX? Does everyone need to really have social networking to prove they are (partially) human? Will it not be strange I just activate it out of the blue? My family/friends rarely know her. I keep a private life. Even if I activate it, I have nothing to share with the public. I got not time for that. Way too busy to update the world on my life.

Social media can not be the "be all" in a relationship.

So if I activate it, connect with her, then what? Have people judge me and send out rants? I already have to delete 3/4s of the people on the list if I reconnect to the account anyway.

So I am looking for facts if it is going to be an issue or what, because will it not seem "strange" to them we become friends a year and half after meeting, and I post nothing?

We communicated mainly in email and Skype.

I appreciate the info.

Thanks.

immigration and embassy do not check social media for proof of relationship, period. It does absolutely nothing for you.

Hi,

So, I spent lots of time doing research about K1 visa applications and how its don, what they consist and I didn't see any info that a person should have FB. I mean there are all kinds of social media networks, and why does the consulate or visa people have to mandate you to have FB. Well maybe its one thing they do about getting a background check but I'm sure they have other system that means to investigate. So, people i know didnt have any problem about not having FB, in fact others do have those but in Private profile so no one can search them, they can be private in FB you know. So, dont worry as long as you prove everything to them and you dont have any criminal records or so , be confident! Stick to what you have email or skype

If your family barely knows her and she does not have any interaction with your family or knowledge of your friends then that could be

a problem during the interview. That doesn't have to be via FB but some chats and phone logs with family do help.

She should also know who your best friends are.

Why would FB friends judge you or post rants ? Just be selective in who you add. Profiles can be set to private instead of public.

You do not need a facebook at all in order for her to be granted her visa. Where is your fiance from? Where at in NC are you from? I am from Greensboro.

You do not need FB, but you should have some other types of communication evidence. You should also know at least some about each other's family and friends. When on visits in person, it can be helpful to meet and take photos together with family and friends. Even chatting online or the phone instead. It is a way to show your relationship is bona fide.

Wow, thank you.

First off, my original post had a word blocked. Trust me, was not a swear! I do not swear. But it was blocked anyway. Just did not want people thinking I have a bad mouth.

She is friends with my mother and brother on Facebook, but like most people, no chatting. Just post commenting and "liking."

Our communication is mainly video and text in Skype, and email of course.

With Facebook, she accused me of hiding her which is why she thinks I not want to be on it. She said one of her friends had an interviewer question why Facebook was not in their methods of communication.

We do not do phone, since I have no international calling on my home phone, and she has to pay a lot to call me from her cell.

When I visited her, we had some pictures with some of her sisters and other people, but no friends of her still remained there and not like a lot of people around to take pictures with. Of course, since she can not come to America to visit, can not have pictures with people I know (not that I have anyone here anyway). So, not in every case are there going to be people around to have a picture with.

Guess Facebook will not be seeing me anytime soon then.

Thank you.

It depends where the beneficiary comes from. If the beneficiary comes from high fraud countries then they will digging everything they could to show a real relationship. You need doing some research about that. I have been on VJ for a while and some of the U.S. embassies actually asked beneficiaries showing chats from Facebook.

My husband doesn't have Facebook and only me. But the CO did not ask proof of relationship. Only asked me a few questions and I was approved. Most of times I talked to my husband through video calls on Skype and emails. That's of all form of communications we had.

As everyone else has already said, you do not need facebook to prove a bonafide relationship. My husband values his privacy and so has never had an FB account. We communicated in other ways and were able to prove it using printed screenshots and emails.

With Facebook, she accused me of hiding her which is why she thinks I not want to be on it.

Not trying to be rude or judgmental, but if this is true then it sounds like you have more than just immigration to worry about in your relationship.
