Used to use Google hangouts but it's become unreliable. We use viber for text and calls. Gmail for our morning mails. (we send each other an email every day so we wake up to a mail, 6 hour time difference)

We use Skype for home video chat, Tango for on the go video chat (they also have really cute animated video messages you can send), Glide is also a cool way to send short video clips, viber and facebook.

We use WeChat to communicate through text, but for voice, I just call her phone, I willingly pay an extra $15/mo on my mobile bill for unlimited international calls to landlines and mobile phones.

I met my fiance on a online dating site August of 2014. 2 days later she told me about WeChat. Everyday ever since, that is what we have used to talk with each other. I absolutely love the app. The translate feature saved me, especially at the beginning when I did not understand a word she said. I love the stickers on there, very cute. And the sight feature gives a quick video of what you are doing.
