The NVC is definitely affected. Since it is the database I would expect delays in all aspects of the process. Since they are not releasing specifics, who knows.

This is frustrating.

Where did u get this part of the article? I really hope that people who have cleared Uscis are not included in it. We were stuck in their back log for long already. 10.5 months. Have had our share of worst luck. Dunno how we can deal with this now.

Those who just had their interviews and were granted visas, will most likely be affected. It means, that they will have to wait for their actual passport affixed visas until the system is fixed. As long as they don't hire the same developers that initially worked on HealthCare.gov - things should be up running again soon :P

So I just looked this up and I feel like I'm losing my mind because EVERY single news source that reported this has the same EXACT story, word for word. It's like it was just copied and pasted numerous times. I find that EXTREMELY strange.

I also didn't see this in NY Times or CNN, ie the bigger more reputable sources. I don't go to Fox news. I don't mean to spread conspiracy theories here but is it possible this is just a BS excuse for all the delays?

Of course it can be. It's not the first time a Government (not only U.S.) has came out a made up story in order to cover their asses. This could also be just a made up story that had to be made public for a bigger, classified reason.

Not strange at all. In a world where news agencies will pull anything off the internet, not bother to verify it's veracity, then go ahead and publish. Of course they're going to copy and paste stories.

They're making a mountain out of a mole hill. Databases crash regularly in the IT world and while they cause a delay its not a permanent thing. If the crash was so catastrophic that it lasted weeks or months...we'd have a much bigger problem. Heads would roll somewhere.
