ABSOFREAKINLUTELY!!! I was completely taken by storm by the chain of events leading up to the realization that I have now found "The One!" This is my destiny... She just happens to be an "Alien!"

:ot: - Why are USCs "Foreign Nationals" to other nations and people from other nations are "Aliens" to the US?

 My fiance happened to be an american guy.... I never looked for an american guy to fall in love with! And he didn't go online looking for a Brazilian girl. We just met and fell in love with each other.

"Seeking women overseas" excludes a big part of this community. I believe most of us didn't specifically look for "aliens".

Uling... that Alien thing always makes me laugh :P

I stole this image from a posting by welshcookie, she posted it on the below link to a thread-and it's appropriate here too..IMO.

Actually, what it really reminded me of was the sort of testimonials I'd find in my grandmother's old naturopathic home remedy manual.

'C. suffered from painful gout and traditional medicine failed! Then he began eating cherries every day and it was cured in two weeks!'

'D. could meet no women and all the American women took his money! But then he met a [insert random foreign country] girl here and she solved all his problems! With extra vitamin C!'

I'm waiting for the Russia crowd to move in on this one.

Hey now...Russian women are the best! My granny, aunts, and mom were all 100% Byelorussian women...so I figured I couldn't go wrong marrying a gal from the old country. Nothing foreign or alien about that!

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I know that this doesnt speak for too many people here, and this might seem strange coming from me, a foreign fiance, but having lived in the US a considerable time, I thought I might be able to share one of my viewpoints on this, having spent a considerable time with American friend of mine, who all have slightly takes on this - although it has nothing to do with my fiance, who is herself a mix of East and West cultures.

A lot of guys get burned because of what they call the "feminazi" program and the fact that there are some women in the US who think this way:

On the Oprah show, a good looking Mid-class AMerican woman was asked "So, are you happier with your new boyfriend, would you marry him?" (as compared to previous boyfriend) and her reply was "Of course I am and I will marry him pretty soon, we have already started talking about it, my new boyfriend has got a Porsche and a 3 million dollar house while my old bf was just starting out as a small business owner, and although I think I was more compatible with my older bf, I think I will be happier with my new one." (Not verbatim, but do remember what she said)

And all the ladies in the house clapped & cheeered as if she had been made for life.

Now I know this isn't symbolic of all the AMerican women or anything, but maybe American men get a bit put off by this kind of completely materialistic woman and start to wonder about whether they are all like that.

I am not saying all women are like this, or that this is the only problem, but maybe, just maybe, it is a part of the problem.

People are urged not to flame on these comments, this is just a personal opinion of mine (not even sure about it), and I think a few others, which I felt weren't coming forth to this thread to speak out their minds.

Personally I feel marriage is based on love and understanding, and if that is there between two people, there shouldn't be anything stopping them from being with each other, since they should be able to resolve any other issues through their love and understanding, even if it is money and sex (known nowadays as main root causes of marital issues).

Edited: Just wanted to add again: I am not sure about this, would not like to start a flame war, think even if it is a problem, it can only be one of many or it is one afflicting just a few men, but wanted it out there.

My husband wasn't looking for a wife at all - and I wasn't looking for a husband. We had both ended other relationships recently and both of us were quite happy on our own. We became friends through an online group (not dating related at all) and 'we' just sort of happened. We fell in love before either of us were aware we were headed there. We were both rather surprised - but definitely pleased - that we ended up finding each other.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Why are so many men like ourselves seeking wives overseas? What has changed in American women that sucessful, intelligent (albeit not-so-handsome as Mel Gibson) men such as oursleves choose to go overseas to find a decent companion??

I'd be curious to discover the motivations my fellow man has for going overseas to find a spouse.

I didn't go overseas to find a spouse.

I wanted to find a spouse and I wound up going overseas.

Going overseas was something I always wanted to do, so I did it.

Finding a spouse was also something I wanted to do, so I did it.

Now it looks like I'll do it again. Stuff happens.

But now I happen to already have new roots, culture, connection, language, friends I made overseas, and they encouraged me to come back and enjoy myself.

Doesn't matter so much to me WHERE I go, what matters is the person I meet in my journey. There's no guarantees, but it was a wonderful journey and it sure beat sitting at home pondering "gee, if only..."

And yes, I'd do it again, in a heartbeat...

New York, Chicago, LA, St. Petersburg or Moscow, it's not WHERE you go, it's being open to you who might find when you get there...
