In many cultures the engagement ceremony is seen as been  too committed to be considered single.  At this point he is too married for a K1 and not married enough for a CR1 .    Hate how they split hairs.  He will probably have to go back and have a full marriage  and try again.

If she is in the US already she was given a period to stay on entry .  It isn't until the visa expires ( to be here now would make December of this year a unlikely I94 date )   Please check how long her stay was permitted for. IF she overstayed that she will have trouble visiting you in the years you have to wait for your spousal visa to process.

When I was in country and we were eating out I remember frequently seeing groups of young men out with friends and working their potential visa sponsors.   Most of the time the kept multiple phones., I assume to make it easier to identify who was ringing them.  One thing they had in common was using the same pet name for every different call.   Sweetie, baby or really popular was "my queen"  If they missed a phone because they were on with another , they were almost working ( I guess scamming is work to them )  and couldn't answer.

My son as an uninsured adult showed up at the ER with a ruptured appendix , in recovery they figured he had complications and needed a second surgery ,    He spent over a month trying to get his weight up to 115 so they would release him.   The bill for the room was 96K  the doctor over 40k  it has a nightmare .  At the time he owned nothing so the worked with him at getting discounts and medical helped.  Took him years to pay his part off.

The government has the right to monitor any communications between the US and a non US point.  Usually monitoring is looking for pattern that may indicate someone is up to no good.  They can however read full emails, capture telephone conversations.  Can and do are very different.  It would not normally happen but I know of a case long ago where a K1 couple was shown a email from one of there accounts of a wedding picture ( yes they were trying to use a K1 when married and yes they were denied )

If you are sent home why could you not move to a city that isn't on the border of such religious fighting ?    I am thinking you are Nigerian ( the ng at the end of your handle )   and you live where the 2 religions are all about eliminating each other. 

Once hubby gets to a point where he need a security clearance he will be required to truthfully answer question about his immediate relatives and their addresses.  So he will have to out her.   And he will most likely be asked about what sort of aid he has provided for her. Depending on the level he needs it will get nasty and he could be denied the clearance and thus the position.  

Having an illegal parent in the US would make him appear to be a potential target for blackmail ..   like give me your secrets or your mother is history ...  so I would not be surprised to see him having issues in any job that he thinks he is going to school for.
