craigofri got a reaction from MLGood in Status Update
The interview was 3 weeks after getting the email. We were able to get everything scheduled beforehand. Interview was the 8th of February and received notice today to scheduke a date to pick up the visa.

No. IMO, $200 is a perfect amount for a new immigrant to bring. It is enough to cover long layovers or delayed flights. I would never carry anywhere close to $10,000 in cash on me through an airport. Electronic funds transfer is much more reasonable for bringing large amounts of money, imho.
Just my opinion.

I had a reply on my post that said up to 10 days. We're about half way through? Wasn't a year of waiting long enough? LOL. No complaints here... My baby is Aprovado! Yahoo!!! (happy dance)
All the Best

It is normal for the status to change to administrative processing between the interview and the visa being issued

We filled out the DS-160 when our application arrived at the consulate. I don't think there's any reason to wait.

craigofri reacted to KayDeeCee in K1 Visa Vaccinations
Vaccines aren't technically required for a k-1, however they are for AOS. And yes, they can just get them once in the US, but they'll pay for them here too. Not only that, but they'll pay for a civil surgeon to do an I-693 and perhaps another medical exam because it can be difficult to find a civil surgeon that will only sign off on the vaccinations. If a K-1 entrant has a completed DS-3025 from their visa medical, then they don't need an I-693 when filing for AOS as long as they file within a year of their K-1 medical.
OP> I suggest you have her get the vaccinations there before her medical, and take the records to have the panel physician mark them off on her DS-3025. AOS is easier with a DS-3025 that's marked complete. There's a pinned topic in the AOS forum with more info on this.

craigofri reacted to Albatross in Previously Denied A Visitor Visa... Effects on K1 Visa?
My wife was denied a B-1/B-2 visa while we were dating, probably BECAUSE she had one of her sons already living in the USA. He came on an employment contract, married an American citizen lady and got a Green Card. But the fact she was denied a B-1/B-2 visa had NO effect on getting the K-1. They did ask about her son at the AOS interview, however...

craigofri reacted to Rjbouchard in Previously Denied A Visitor Visa... Effects on K1 Visa?
Echoing what others have said, my Thai fiance had made two attempts to get a tourist visa to the US to visit me, both were denied. When we filed our K1 paperwork, and again when we applied for her green card after we married, they asked about the earlier visa applications but it caused no issue for either the K1 visa or her green card.

"Denied per INA 214(b)" is codespeak for "The consulate said they didn't feel that she had ties for her to come back to Brazil" 😁
INA 214(b) is the provision of US immigration law that says non-immigrant visa applicants are presumed to have immigrant intent, unless they can convince the consul officer that they have enough ties to their home country to compel them to leave the US in a timely manner.

At this point, I'm taking any slightly positive news since this process has been so discouraging. But yeah, we will see how the month of June goes. I really hope they can release the data sooner this time around.

They finally released the May data! They issued 26 visas from Rio in May. So hopefully we are entering an upwards trend now and we can get the line moving from here on!

craigofri reacted to Penguin_ie in Negative attitudes in the forum
I wanted to address the negative attitudes we have seen on the rise recently in the upper/ immigration forums towards those who ask beginner/ simple questions, or have unusually fast or slow VisaJourneys.
First, there is a tone difference between the Progress forums- which are mostly for support and cheerleading, and the Info forums, which are mostly to have questions answered. While all our forums are supposed to be welcoming to all and friendly, this is especially important in the Progress forums, which are not to discuss politics, or be negative towards those fortunate to have their case dealt with quickly, or critical of those who voice sadness about their own slow progress. These forums are there to uplift eachother!
Secondly- in the info forums, you may get bad news. When a question is asked, our members are encouraged to answer truthfully, even if this may not be what the Op wants to hear, because it is important to be informed. However, the emphasis is still on being welcoming and friendly. If you need to give bad news, do so gently, and stick to facts; constructive criticism of the Op's plans ARE allowed, but the emphasis is on constructive. No need to dwell on mistakes (or tell members they should be on 90 Day Fiance- that is a personal attack and automatic suspension), or illegal actions in the past- instead, encourage and explain legal options for the future. And ONLY legal options- as per our TOS, VJ does not support, condone or encourage illegal (immigration) actions, and such posts will be removed.
Ultimately, we are here to help all members, old and new, easy cases and complicated, those who write a fact filled bullet point post and those who are panicking and don't make much sense in their first post. Yes, sometimes questions can be easily googled, or answered via a search of our forums. But if you feel that way, just scroll past- no need to criticise the OP for asking the question.
