ORCoast reacted to Timona in Mother-in-law says US$700 monthly remittance is not enough
$700 is a lot of money in third world country like Philippines. This was my monthly paycheck, after taxes, from a gas station that I used to work at for 30 hours a week while at University.

Engineers with 8 years experience earn $1000 per month in Kenya. Your MIL isn't even an engineer.

What I think is happening is she now wants to maintain and show upscale status in the neighborhood being that her children are in the US. This is so common amongst parents in third world countries whose children are abroad. They demand, even if they did not even pay a single dollar to get you to US. Basically, your struggles got you to US and when they (parents) woke up and realized that you're in US, they now start using you as pension.

Well, cut the ungrateful person off. Let her stretch $0. You and your wife owe her nothing. Birthing someone shouldn't guarantee entitlement. Your wife didn't ask them to birth her nor for them to engage in Adam and Eve, the scenario that brought her to existence. The highlighted should be your wife' clap back to her mom, should MIL entitlement reach unbearable levels.

I loathe such kind of mentality.

I just went through the same experience: my local office had my N400 file so they proceeded with just the N400 interview; however my I-751 wasn't transferred to my local office in time so I did not have a joint interview. I passed the citizenship interview but final decision couldn't be made until my I-751 was adjudicated. It happens quite often from what I found online.

ORCoast reacted to SusieQQQ in N400 application what Documents required?
Evidence. At the time of filing, you must submit all evidence and supporting documentation listed in the Required Evidence section of these Instructions.
    https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/n-400instr.pdf

It is strongly suggested you file online and not by mail. Online filing (1) gives you instructions on what you need to submit based on your answers (2) gives you an immediate filing receipt vs a month or more by mall given current delays and backlogs with physical mail

Funny how the party line on VJ is that overstay is without consequences.   Until it isn’t.
You ‘feel’ like that, and yet US immigration law clearly says otherwise.

ORCoast reacted to nastra30 in Dual citizenship conflicting with Oath of Allegiance
The oath of allegiance is not about you losing or renouncing citizenship of your other country, because they is no law banning dual citizenship in the US.
The oath is about renouncing allegiance and fidelity to the other country. An example basically is - will you serve in the US military when called upon verses serving the military of the other country. In extreme circumstances when your two countries are at war who's side will you choose?

You must take valid and expired passports to the interview, but there is no requirement that passport(s) be valid when applying for citizenship.

Lots of great information in here. I love the resources in this forum and WE are the best ones.
From experience, my wife’s and mine - she’s the Brazilian, I’m the gringo - aside from right to vote, better estate laws, easier travel, the main reasons we chose citizenship are:
    - no more scrutiny at the US port of entrance. Your mileage may vary, but after my wife got her green card, she had to go to the office pretty much every time for them to “check” things. Yes, she had some “history” with the CBP and USCIS!
    - no more fear of being denied at green card renewal ever 10 years
    - last but not least, Trump got elected! That was the main trigger for us because we knew that sooner or later things would get really difficult getting citizenship or even green card renewal.
It also means that someone worse WILL get elected in the near future and will go further in  banning immigration, green cards, citizenship.
Also if you don’t feel comfortable living in a country led by a fascist, you can leave for 4 years and not lose citizenship unlike your green card!

That is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in a while.  Whether your mother wanted to naturalize or not has nothing to do with you.

You should have appealed your naturalization denial.

At this point, just apply again.

    Best of luck.

Wow, it seems you were interviewed by an anti immigrant officer. Hopefully this time you get a professional interviewer. Nobody is required to keep working for the same employer even for EB based GC holders anyway.

Thank you guys! The interview went very well. The officer was super nice and everything felt more like a chat with an acquaintance rather than an official interview. Although I had to wait to be called for 30 minutes, the interview itself only took 15 mins or so. The Oath ceremony is scheduled for 8:45 am on this Thursday. I am very excited and can't wait to officially become a US citizen 😊

Tomorrow! Please don't be too nervous. Mine, a 5 year N400 too, was really straightforward. It took around 15 minutes total and there was nothing there to trip me up. Just some basic questions about any change in circumstances or trips out of the country. No to both in my case. The civics questions were straightforward. Ironically, I was exempt from the English tests.

The person doing my interview was friendly and totally non-confrontational. You'll be absolutely fine. All the hard work has been done with the forms and the documentation. Good luck and I look forward to hearing the good news tomorrow

Welcome to America. That sounds about right. Like previous poster suggested you will be able to cancel this one and pick up the one at your job once you start. Do you live in Michigan or California? Depending on the state you would follow their health exchange website. Personally I think previous companies you mentioned are shady.

Quick update in case anyone finds it useful. I got a notification yesterday, 2/24/2021, that my application was approved. This morning, 2/25/2021, I got another notification that my passport has shipped. The USPS tracker is not showing anything at the moment but hopefully that will update later today.

So, in short, mine took around 3 weeks non-expedited. I hope everyone else's is as speedy.

    3.  I wouldn't give this lady any personal information; especially SSN.  The chances for identity fraud and opening financial accounts are high.

    4.  Let it go.  No one has clean hands.  Your wife was working illegally.  This lady took advantage of that.  Just let it go and ignore her.  Is $1500 worth more BS?
