FloraTen reacted to EmilyW in IR1 - Difficulty finding work
Agree with all the suggestions already made about being very explicit that you are authorized to work.
It took me around 6 weeks to find a job and I had to drop a few levels. Which was humiliating because I have three degrees and taking on that job required me to almost regress 10 years. Having said that, within six months, I got my first promotion and within a couple of years I was back to the levels I was back in Australia. And now I earn twice as much as I did in Australia.
It takes patience and tenacity. But you will get there. I know it doesn't always feel like that, and I know it can get you down. But it's a test and - once you pass it - you'll come out of it stronger, I promise.

FloraTen reacted to Cathi in IR1 - Difficulty finding work
It took my husband 7 months to find a job and it was loading trucks at Walmart. He is a computer engineer and no one wanted to hire him because he had no U.S job experience. It took him over a year to find a job in his field and at that, he had to take a job as an unpaid intern just to get his foot in the door, even though he had years of engineering experience in his home country. And yes, he had it listed on his resume that he was authorized to work here. Eleven years later and he's VP of his division (software) at a robotics company.

FloraTen got a reaction from TriniGirl2 in SB-1 visa applicants Trinidad & Tobago
Well no one seemed to have known but I got in contact with the embassy in Trinidad and they told me for this process it takes 22–28 working days to process the visa once approved and it in fact was issued on the 27th working day in this case. So I hope this helps someone else looking for answers.

i can see new rules coming from this report or harder time for the legit people to do a VAWA
its always a shame when 1 or more people ruin it for the rest

Had my biometrics appointment yesterday at 1pm at the ASC in Elizabeth, NJ. In and out in about 10 minutes. Picture and fingerprints taken and the same evening my case status updated to state such.

I doubt it. I’m in Columbus, it’s not supposed to be really backlogged. Plus, my understanding is that when they are at the biometrics stage, cases haven’t made it to the local field office yet. Point being, at this stage, our location is irrelevant imho.
It might be a combination of factors, for example how busy the service center is and how busy the officer working on your case is.
One thing that I’ve noticed is that LIN deals with a lot of 601 waivers, so they might be more backlogged because of those can be quite complicated.

Received mine yesterday as well and the NOA is dated the same 2/15. It was from Potomac service center although it’s says MSC is that normal? I need to check my case updates online to see if the biometrics updated

When it comes to LinkedIn don't just put you out there and wait. Utilize it to connect with recruiters, HR... from the companies you're looking into. Message them and get your name in their heads when you apply so that they look out for your resume. It's super weird to do that when you're not used to it but it can help a lot especially when you apply at big companies.
When you apply online and you have the option between filling out a form or upload a resume don't be lazy and go for the resume.
And I actually used one of those websites to fabricate a resume to get an idea of how it can look like and what to write. You can usually cancel the subscription within a month so it was $10 that helped me a lot to have something to start with. Plus I got the first job I applied for and really wanted so it was worth it 😊

FloraTen got a reaction from Iscir in How long does it take to receive the green card since POE date?
Just a little timeline so 185 days after POE at JFK and two inquiries and one phone call to uscis my card went into production. On the 190th day the card was mailed and then received the following day via usps.

So hubs logged in yesterday and saw this magical notice:
Card Produced - (Non-DACA)
USCIS has produced your Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) and mailed it to the address you provided.
Lets see how long it takes to arrive. Yesterday, when the message changed, it had been 175 days since we activated our visas.
No e-mail, no tracking. Guess we're supposed to telepathically know...

Hey, thank you for the reply. I got through to an agent that same day and after a few checks he told me to call back in two weeks time but on the day of the two week time frame I got an email stating that they sent my card in to production so I didn’t need to call back thankfully.
