There is no fee for the DS160. The fee is for the Visa itself. $265 In Philippines you cant schedule your interview until you've paid the visa fee. Other Embassy's may do it differently.

For the Brazilian consulate, yes, you have to either give them the 1040, w2 and all other schedules OR you give them the tax transcripts and w2, alongside the i134, of course.
This is not relevant to OPs country

    For a K-1 It's not even a requirement.
I-134 and letter from Employer is enough.

However, I've emailed them and asked, cause I'm planning my F's interview next month.

At least I have emailed in regards to the Interview at Manila. I don't know about anyone else's country.

I have seen different threads from different countries where they have gone to interview and been given a 221G for transcripts so I would say better safe then sorry.

The answer is "who" your dealing with and what there requirements are. I'll post the steps below and if you follow those steps you should not have any problem. The problems that some encounter are that the SS agent doesn't know that a K-1 is eligible to apply for a SSN soon after they arrive and before marriage. You combat that issue with the document sited in the information below. The second problem that some have encountered is that the beneficiary does not appear in the SAVE database. Sometimes the SAVE updates after a few days, so I recommend that you wait till the second week the beneficiary has been in the USA. Once you get married and have your marriage certificate you can return back to the SS office and change your name.

    Hi Brazil,

Not sure if you've got an answer for your request yet or not? I recall that i didn't wait for 2 weeks for applying the SSN. I submitted it after about 2 days when entering the USA. Hope it could be a little help for you.

    I strongly disagree.

Hundreds of millions of women since FDR have gone decades with an SS card in their maiden name and waited until they were married to change their surnames. And managed just fine.

As as others have noted, some SS clerks deny SS cards to married K1s that don’t have EADs.  So now getting bank account just got much harder.

Get the SS application in now.  It isn’t that hard.

Hi! I hope I can help you.

I work at SSA not every employee knows how to process K1 applicants (sad true) 🤦🏻‍♂️, that said... The 10 days is to give the “SAVE” system time to update. SAVE is a program that comunicates with other federal agencys. SSA uses the SNAP program to create Social Security Number and this two systems communicate to create your social. SSA is in charge on selecting the number this process is called enumeration USCIS on the other hand is the one that grants work authorization. (Getting techincal I I know)

Bottom line SSA has two front types employees they are called “CS” and “CSR”. The Claim Specialist(CS) don’t know much about enumeration they primary role is to take claims for Disability or Retirement benefits. Custumer Service Representative (CSR) are more adept on doing that because they got proper training with Enumeration.

(At least thats what is in the paper😂)

You don’t need a Social to get married

You need a Social to get a Bank Acct
You need a Social to get Medical Insurance

I have seen people that wait the whole AOS process to get a SSN
I have seen people that wait to get a EAD Card from USCIS
I have seen people that came straight from the air port to the office. 😂

    Bottom line is:

If you are a K1 Visa Holder you are entitled to a SSN with your maiden name. Because SSA have to issue the card from the visa that matches with the SAVE system. People try everytime to get the married name from the start and is a pain.

My advice is to wait to get the EAD card that comes with your marry name also don’t forget to bring your marriage lic and SSA can change your last name easy.

After you get your Residence comeback to SSA to update your SSN number and remove the work authorize only statement that will be on your first card.

If you become a US citizen come again to the SSA office to update that as well with your naturalization certificate or US passport this helps a lot because when you request any service on any state or federal agency they know that you are a citizen.

SSA is the center of data base of the Federal Goverment to keep taps on people. ( I think i have wrote a lot)✌🏻

I hope this helps clear your question and sorry for any misspelled words.

    Good Day🤗

My Fiancée arrived 1/14/2019 and we went to the SS office in Albuquerque on 1/15 with the I-94 printed out from the CPB website.  We were told to come back after 10 days because it wouldn’t be in the system yet, she didn’t even try, but just told us to come back.  We went back on 1/25 and the application was processed, but we were told there was some problem or delay verifying the information and to call if we didn’t receive the SS card after 2 weeks.  She also said that this has been happening on all of her K1’s but did not go into detail about what exactly was the problem.  We had no problem getting the marriage license without a SSN, she just needed my Fiancée’s  passport with the visa inside.  I’ll try to upload later the form letter they gave us at the SS office.

You do not need an SSN to get married.  At least not in the states were I've been married, which includes California and Illinois. BTW, the Santa Clara County Recorder's office in San Jose is an excellent place for a quick marriage license, ceremony, and certificate.

Case in point, we married last week without presenting SSNs. You do need photo ID. A passport works. A USA drivers license works. She had a Myanmar passport.

That said, you can and should apply for an SSN soon after arriving in the USA.

I read the recommendations on visajourney.com and decided to ignore the one that said to wait an undefined number days for CBP and USCIS to sync up their records.

We went to the social security office on January 11, 2 days after POE. We didn't go January 12 due to jet lag and I had a busy day at the office, and I knew visiting the SS office is 2-4 hour waste of time.

I printed her electronic I-94 from the CBP website. We went to the nearest SS office, and were seen by a very knowledgeable clerk. He processed her application and said that indeed CBP and USCIS had not synced up. He showed me his screen. USCIS had the exact same information he typed in from the I-94, her passport, and her Visa, and a stupid error message saying the information didn't match their database. He said it would take 4 weeks to get a SS card. Oh no!!!!! I was wrong.

On January 25, we received a letter saying her card would take two more weeks to arrive.

On Monday January 28, exactly 10 working days after we applied for her SS card, her SS card showed up in the mail, exactly 10 working days before the local  SS office, visajourney, SSA, etc. all said it arrive.

    During a government shutdown.

Now we can open bank accounts, get state ID, file tax returns, etc.

You need a SSN to open a bank account, so I would get one asap and request a new one once you're married in your married name. Keep in mind you can only get a SSN as long as your K1 OR I-94 are valid for another 2-3 weeks, since they need time to process your SSN request.

2 weeks is not entirely necessary anymore, but I went in one day after arriving and ended up with manual verification what took about 3 weeks. So you could just try it, worst case scenario you have to wait a little longer on your SSN.
