Moon&Stars reacted to p-ana in moving your medical history to the US
    Second this.

I have cancer history in my family and had a related health scare before moving and only had scanned images and not the actual images of my tests. It caused a delay for my checkup here and also had me taking additional tests that cost extra out of pocket.

so if you have any health conditions, things that needed follow up, etc, bring the docs/ papers with you. If needed, you can translate and help out your new doctors understand.

Because apparently moving offices from living abroad to the US makes them multiply into being able to do more work? I have to admit that I read that article and I don't get how it's supposed to help. It just sounds like more delays from shipping things back and forth. No additional people being added, everyone being relocated. So add on the time to shut-down a location, relocate employees, ship all files, learn new systems at the new location...it just seems like it will add to the backlog. The only saving grace I see on this is that none of the news writers have actually seen the proposal, so maybe it will make more sense than just the little details that are known.

People are looking for someone to blame.  Blaming asylum seekers for following the letter of the law is a bit silly.  The laws could be rewritten to prevent these supposed Mexican cases, but there is no evidence that is the main issue with the backlog.  The main issue is there needs to be more funding and focus on proper immigration, and instead of abandoning international offices, they should be encouraged and funded to free up domestic offices to handle fewer cases.  It's great that the USCIS has been profitable, but if we want to tighten legal immigration, you need to fund the service that is making it happen.

This is going to hurt people who are legally immigrating, and putting further burden on the US domestic offices.  Also for adoption seekers and military families this will place even more challenges in front of them.

I agree with others that we should wait for details, but for someone like me who is planning to DCF to bring my wife later this year, it's some very stressful news to hear.  Especially under the Trump administration ,things could change in an instant... or they might not, depends on the whims of the administration and what the courts will think.  But for those now in the process or soon to be, this puts some of us in a limbo who have been doing all the right things to do perfectly legal immigration.  We need details asap of their proposals.

Yes -- let's wait to react until things become clear.
Not all asylum cases are frivolous (e.g., many Venezuelans), and please trust that USCIS isn't granting asylum willy-nilly.  The successful applicants are those who are proving their cases with solid, thorough documentation.

I totally understand that feeling! You should receive it any day! We interviewed in November, but had to obtain an additional document which we submitted in February. Our status changed to issued on 14/02. My fiancé elected to pick it up in Belo and he received an email on 22/02 that he could schedule an appointment to pick it up. Between the time of it being issued and being told we could pick it up, we heard nothing. Hope you hear something soon!

Thanks all! I was having a mini-meltdown! For some reason the link/website wasn't allowing us to schedule an appointment. We received the email saying to do it and everything. We tried calling their help desk and it was either busy or would disconnect us. Eventually we just gave up and my fiancé went their for assistance. After waiting about 40 minutes they gave him his visa/passport. We're not sure if they realized the website wasn't working or just had pity on us, but we thankfully have it now!!!

Go on the same website where you scheduled the interview (green page - immigrant) and log in. You’ll be able to schedule the pickup there.
The link on the email is in fact incorrect, it directs you to the nonimmigrant page (blue).

The status is likely to change several times. We also had to submit documents with a 221g. We experienced: Administrative Processing (AP), Ready, AP, Application Received, Nonimmigrant AP and finally issued. They kept his passport, so the timeline won't be the same, but it's not unusual to go through many different statuses after the interview.

    Best wishes!

Moon&Stars got a reaction from Zoeeeeeee in Can you get your passport returned during the process?
We went through a similar situation. My fiancé had his interview and they kept his passport but they requested additional documentation. While he was working on the additional documents, he had to travel back to his home country to attend his father's funeral. They returned his passport to him and asked for him to return it to them when he got back to his residence country where he interviewed. So it is possible, but I don't know if it was based on the country or the extenuating circumstance of a death in the family.

I'm sorry for my delayed response! If there is a location in Sao Paulo, then yes, your fiancé can complete them there. When you schedule your interview, you will also schedule the biometrics and you can pick the location for the biometric at that time. Best of luck!

Yup, that's the one. I can't actually recall if you need the NOA2 at the medical, but you do need it at the interview. You will also get a confirmation from the CEAC when you make that appointment for the biometrics. I think we took all 3 confirmations just to be sure, I just don't recall which ones they wanted at the medical. I think it was only the interview confirmation.

I understand how this can be confusing. The letter from the consulate sometimes comes, sometimes doesn't as the P3. The P3 is instructions that are available online. If it does come, it's much after the fact. What we had to take to the medical was the emailed confirmation of the scheduled interview. You will also need the NOA2. Hope this helps!

Moon&Stars reacted to usmsbow in What counts as 1 visit and how many does USCIS/DOS like to see for higher fraud countries?
By VJ standards, you two have already spent plenty of time together. Brazil isn't really considered a high fraud country for K-1 visas. I don't think you need signed statements from anyone else. And I wouldn't mention anything about FB. Just say the first time you met in person. That avoids the whole IMB "problem". Just my 2 cents.

Thank you so much for this info!  Sadly she lives in the north in the state of Para, no where near any of the doctors offices in the 3-4 locations provided on the embassy’s website.

We will take your recommendation to call of course but it sounds like she will have to be in rio for an entire week now.  It will likely be about the same cost (but more hassle) to fly her twice,  to do medical in a city then rio for interview, so probably best that she just stays in rio for an entire week.

I had no idea they only scheduled interviews on mon/tues so that was extremely helpful info!

I'm glad to hear they didn't force her to have the shots. Technically, a K-1 visa doesn't require vaccinations to enter the USA. However, they are required in the AOS process. So it won't affect her being granted the K-1 visa, but it could impact things after she is in the USA. I don't know if there are alternatives here for her to take the shots without an egg based vaccine or what the options are in the AOS process, I haven't made it that far myself.  But at least I can tell you that she doesn't need them to arrive here.

The police did paper records and the records did get lost. I used to live in Cape Town and I saw that happen. I think you need a lawyer to try and track down that court case.

If it was a civil case I would look for a civil lawyer in South Africa. And try to go from there.

Also there are some South African lawyers in the USA that might be able to help. Maybe you can message them or call them for advise?

Also check out bunnyhop.co.za and see if they could help you.
