On the screen with the "Prior spouse history" the table is not actually empty.  There is a blank entry where it says "Edit Delete".  So while it is blank, the system still sees it as a former spouse.  It probably got there by inadvertently clicking "yes" on the "Have you been married previously?" and then clicking through the subsequent screens leaving them blank.  The glitchy part of the form is that once you went down that road, it hides the "Have you been married previously?" question entirely and you can't back up to it.  The question is gone.  The solution is to delete the blank entry and then go back to the "Current Spouse" question using the link on the left rather than the back button.  Then proceed forward through the screens. until you get back to the "Have you been married previously?" question.

Also a great example of why it was wise to review the actual pdf form before submitting online.

It's ok. I actually didn't realize of this mistake on my own form until a week before my interview -it wasn't an issue. I corrected it there and then.

Wife applied online (5 year rule).  It was a piece of cake.  Immediately received receipt notice and biometrics re-use notice.  Filing N-400 to day of Naturalization oath was less than 6 months total.

Yes.... the transcripts you get online don't show the full names neither the full address.... that's why I called IRS and requested the transcripts 2018 and 2019 by mail, the cover letters we received from IRS showed both our full names and our address....

Joselio got a reaction from HF & HB in K1 wife, MFJ tax, foreign bank account, FBAR?
    Hi,
I'm US citizen. My wife came to US with a K1 fiancee visa in June 2018, We married in July 2018 and from the date of married to the last day of 2018 she has been living in the US.
In her country, Chile, she worked from January 2018 to May 2018. She has not worked in the US.

She has two bank accounts in Chile, and last year she had a combine amount of approx. $13,000 in those accounts. all of these manoy was saving from her job. Some of that money she has been transferring to our bank in the US. from bank to bank (electronically).

I have been doing the taxes 2018, Married filling jointly, and Turbotax is asking to file FBAR?

Anyone has had experience in this situation?
It appears that Turbotax doesn't support FBAR. Who I need to contact to file the FBAR?
FYI- she doesn't have the GC, still waiting for the interview.
    Thanks,

Truly I didn't feel it was personal - just following training. But it was nasty yeah and if you weren't very on the ball as well as calm and respectful it could have gone badly wrong very easily. I was so glad I was so organized with all my paperwork. And it's done...(for now!)
    Thank you

    Greetings Everyone,
My husband and I had our Green Card interview today.  All in all, it was a great experience.

Our interview was scheduled for 12:10pm and we arrived at 12:00pm.  We sat in the waiting room until 12:15 when we were called in the back by a nice female officer.  She first took our IDs, then she took my husband's picture and finger prints.  After that, we both stood up for our oaths.  She started by asking us to submit any additional materials that I wanted to.  I gave her an updated I-864, proof of our relationship, and a few pictures (Although  brought 70 pictures, she only kept about 15 of them).  She then proceeded to ask me questions from our I 485, then my husband the same questions.  After tediously going through all the questions on our I-485, she asked us how we met, how we decided to become a romantic couple, and our proposal/when we decided to get married?  That was basically it.  After all of that, she gave me back the updated I 864, because she said since we were already qualified from the I 864 that was submitted in August and we hadn't filed our 2018 taxes, nothing has changed in our financial status, so she didn't need it.  After that, she told us everything looks good for us to be approved, she just needs to complete a final background check, which she plans to have completed tomorrow since there are no interviews scheduled.  She said we could check our case status online, but if we don't receive our Green Card within 30 days, make an info pass appointment and come back to the office so they can see if it got lost in the mail.  We were out and done by 1pm.

It was a very casual conversation; and it is very true that as long as you are telling the truth and have nothing to hide, this is an easy part of the process.

FBAR Is not part of the tax return. TurboTax just reminds you. If she had over $10,000 in bank accounts in Chili anytime in calendar year 2018, she files.  It is a report to the US Treasury. There is no tax liability.

This page explains and gives some links to read  https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/report-of-foreign-bank-and-financial-accounts-fbar

This is the link to where you file online or do an offline form. It is basically going to ask for the bank name, address, account number, and highest balance during 2018.
    https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/report-of-foreign-bank-and-financial-accounts-fbar

Note: I'm not sure why the IRS website puts this under small business because it applies to any taxpayer with foreign accounts.

Hi! I flew back to JFK from the Philippines last week with my AP and had no problems. They just asked for my passport and the combo card.

The first immigration officer took my passport and combo card & got my fingerprint and photo taken. He then called another officer and gave my docs to that guy. The guy escorted me to another room and gave my docs to another officer behind a computer. They just told me to take a seat and wait for my name to be called. They called my name and gave me back my docs. No questions asked. Just waited around 5 mins.

My husband and I flew back last night from Spain using his AP.  We flew into Miami.  I thought everything was good until we were sent for secondary inspection.  I almost lost it.  We waited for two hours.  They checked some stuff and gave him a receipt of his parole.  Then we were free to go.  Just putting it out there in case anyone gets pulled for secondary.  Don't panic like me.  Seems to be the norm.
