Wife had her interview on 5/26. She passed the English and civics test, thankfully. However, she was issued an RFE as they needed updated marriage evidence. I helped her upload 60+ pages of evidence to the USCIS portal the same day. Here's hoping they process it soon...

Given the new CDC guidance released last week, there may be changes to USCIS policies around in-person activities like interviews and oath ceremonies.

I don’t care what it looks like as long as it has the magic United States of America on the front cover

I received a "biometrics reuse notice" dated 12/10 which means no ASC appointment needed!

Here's hoping more people will hear from USCIS soon on their N-400's!

Yeah, abusers don't usually want to go to counseling. Even if they did, it's not advisable because they generally lie to and manipulate the counselor to further gaslight you. Your best plan of action is to document his abuse, save up your own money in private and eventually get a lawyer because this marriage is not sustainable.

Being "stressed out" is not an excuse to verbally abuse your spouse in front of your children. And a mature man knows how to respectfully handle his children and to ask if he's unsure of something. I'm a woman and have practically no maternal instincts whereas my husband has changed his siblings' diapers when he was a teen and they were infants. He knows more about child-rearing than I do. This isn't about gender. It's about just common decency and not being abusive.

While these things sound good...they amount to window dressing when the core issue remains that USCIS fails in conducting the most basic functions of thier mission each and every day.

It happens to many spouses and other family members of USCs. All I can say is, you can “thank” her fellow country folk who also presented evidence of why they need to return home to the visa officer but then, as you are well aware, these reasons “evaporated” and they subsequently overstayed or even adjusted status.

There is a school of thought that suggests applying for an immigrant visa (although this does require multiple hoops to be jumped through) and then entering the US and returning the green card that is issued to the embassy with the remarks that she “had the opportunity to immigrate legally but still came home to Thailand”. Would I recommend that? Not necessarily but other people have done it.

This is a fascinating thread. If I were to look at my own wife's situation, I could imagine her feeling similarly homesick. To be fair, if something like this could happen to a UK expat, it could certainly happen to others. I suppose this risk exists at some level for all USC's.

The culture differences between here and Asia are even bigger, so I find it interesting that someone would struggle with the differences between the UK and USA. To each his/her own, though. Just thought I'd stop by to offer a perspective from outside the Anglo Saxon sphere of influence.

You can get married online, meet up in person, then file the I-130 packet. You would need to show all the normal requirements plus having met up in person plus that you reasonable were able to consummate the marriage.
OR You can just meet up and marry in person like >99% of couples, avoid the extra requirements above, and avoid any additional questions or scrutiny that may come with it.

I'd highly suggest taking the path much more traveled. Don't add unnecessary complexity to a process that tends to cause anxiety already.

I know of at least one case where this did work, but they were immigrating to a country that did not have the physical presence requirement. Had they tried to immigrate in the other direction (to the US), then they would have hit the issue noted above.
