Do I need to request the Combo interview option?

Hello there, I sent my I-751 in July of 2021. In January of this year, 2023, I applied for citizenship and I already get a interview scheduled.

 

Do I need to call or do anything to get a combo interview or there is nothing I can you more than way and expect that they will maybe do a combo interview?

Some of us have uploaded request letters to MYUSCIS.  The verdict is still out as to just how effective the letters are, although my wife and I did receive a combo interview.   They can't harm.   I would most certainly prepare for a combo interview.

Since the interview is for the N400, I would upload it in the N400 section.

I don't fully understand the question.  I assume you will write a short letter referencing the N400 interview information, and the I751 information respectfully requesting a combo interview then upload it into the N400 section.  Like @Crazy Cat said, it is not certain that will do anything, but it certainly does not hurt to try.  Beyond that, I would assume even if you don't upload a letter, I would plan on a combo interview and prepare accordingly with both spouses attending and bringing any additional information you may want to add to the I751 package such as updated tax information.

I can think of one reason to not request a combo interview at the time of filing N-400: it invites USCIS to delay adjudication of your I-751 case until your N-400 case is adjudicated. 

 

In the case of Mrs. @Crazy Cat, she was approaching her 5th year of a pending I-751 and she filed N-400 at a field office with fast N-400 processing. So in terms of the "what does she have to lose" / "what does she have to gain" tradeoff, sending a request for a combo interview was a no brainer.

 

For someone with fewer pending years of I-751 and in a field office with slow N-400 processing, I would  carefully weigh a request for a combo until the actual N-400 interview is scheduled.  Once scheduled, definitely upload a letter that:

• Reminds USCIS that I-751 is pending (because we see reports of N-400 interview experiences where the ISO had no clue there was a pending I-751) and
• Requests a combo.

There is no way to request a combo interview. Also it varies by field office if they will do it.

I'd say there is a way request it, but whether the combo will be given depends on many factors.
