Case is being actively reviewed by USCIS..

I-130 Petition: On the USCIS site it's been saying for the past 2.5 months that the case is being actively reviewed by USCIS. Is it normal for the review process to take this long. The first 8 months it said that the I-130 Petition has been submitted, but a few months ago I received an update saying that the case is being actively reviewed and that I don't have anything outstanding. Is it normal for the "Active Review" to take this long and how much longer can I expect to wait. Is there anything that I need to prepare in the meantime for the next phase?

My petition was received on 08/31/21 and has been in active review since 09/22/21 and I’m still waiting on my approval. Just have to wait

Actively Reviewing means something very different in USCIS speak.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Can you elaborate please?

We submitted my wife's N-400 application this morning at 9:00am.  By 1:00pm, today, the status had changed to "USCIS is actively reviewing your case......."  Yea, right....

BTW, I am serious.  We submitted it TODAY, Sunday, August 7, 2022.

Just a normal USCIS rhetoric...I had this for 1.5+ years when I filed AOS. I had it for 1+ years when I filed ROC/N400...best advice, keep living and forget USCIS unless they mail your something. Fidgeting for updates daily will drive you insane.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

It took 8 months after they received the package for the status to change to "actively reviewing.."

True. There is no clear timeline for any form/case so no point in even checking for updates daily.

Actively reviewing = it’s sitting on someone’s desk collecting dust, waiting for someone to get to it in the huge pile of other petitions

I thought maybe some progress had been made because the first months it just said "I-130 Submitted" then recently it change to Actively reviewing..."

Yes, it is normal for it to take that long.

"Actively reviewed" means someone took a look, decided to update the case status, and that's about it.  It could be in the process of getting approved, or waiting for results on background checks, or sent to a different pile to be looked at again in a few months.

What can I be doing in the meantime to prepare for the second phase? Are there any documents that I could be gathering now?
