My wife got her interview and was approved on September this year. She travels with me while I am working mainly because she has not learned how to drive or have a DL yet.  USCIS scheduled an appointment for the 15th of October. We had already left for work on a 2 month project. My wife wrote them a letter requesting it be reschedule for January 2022.  6-8 days went by and we got a case update stating Oath ceremony will be scheduled.  So we thought all was good.  November 20th they sent another update, this time they scheduled the ceremony for December 15th. We already know we can not make that appointment. So again we wrote them a letter, again letting them know we are away from home on a 2 month work project. We politely requested that they reschedule for January 2022 we would be home for almost the entire month. We sent the second letter out on wed. the 24th of November, with the holiday and mail running slow, I am not even sure they got our second letter before they canceled. On December 2nd we got another update stating the ceremony had been canceled.  the letter they sent states the following

"This is to advise you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel the previously scheduled Oath Ceremony on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:00AM for the above applicant. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. We will advise you of any further action taken on this case, including any rescheduled interview appointment information, under separate notice."

Anyone have any idea what this means?  Thanks for any help

I would never advise anyone to reschedule oath. It's a 1 hour thing. Couldn't she make it, take the oath and close that chapter? USCIS is known to be swamped and notoriously slow. I'm even surprised you got another rescheduled oath that quick, unless you live in a small town.

USCIS will see that you're cool and not in a hurry and you may ever hear from them again for a long time. I'll suggest take your next appointment. Get her an Uber to drop her and pick her up. Simple.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I think this cancel notice is not related to your letter or requests to postpone the appointment. Probably they are cancelling because of the holidays.

I read about that Cancel notices before so again I don’t think it is related.

USCIS doesn't cancel oath ceremonies because of the holidays. In fact, in years past-including last year-some offices hold oath ceremonies on Christmas day. https://www.gud.uscourts.gov/naturalization-ceremony-celebrate-christmas-day

I understand it might be difficult due to your travel arrangements and you definitely lucked out with them canceling this date. I’ve heard of people getting direct calls from their offices for mistakes the offices have made. Hopefully they will reschedule in January for you. It is difficult to know if they have your letters or taken that into account. I guess the last thing you want is for your case to be thrown to the back of the pile so whatever date is given next just got to make it work. Fingers crossed it is in Jan!

Thanks for the reply, we truly looked into trying to find a feasible way to make the dates given work but working in a rural part of Montana made that impossible. We are due to be home in mid December, so if nothing else we will drive to USCIS in Indianapolis and start asking questions there. 6-7 days for a letter from rural Montana to Indianapolis with a National Holiday and a weekend I doubt that the letter we sent  made it before that cancelation letter was even generated.  I posted just to see if anyone here had gone through something similar.  and yes fingers crossed for a reschedule in January.

It means you got what you wanted without any intervention on your part.  Rescheduling is not uncommon.   Watch your USCIS account and deal with the next date when the oath gets rescheduled.

In a previous life, I was a manager in my home country with members of my team being from all over the world. I received a phone call late on a Wednesday night from the wife of one of my team who was currently offshore on an oil rig in the middle of the North Sea. She was calling me to say she had just been called by the USCIS to say that her husband’s oath ceremony had been scheduled for the coming Friday. He had been waiting 2 years for this. There was no way he was going to postpone.

It then took a logistical miracle to arrange for a helicopter to divert to the oil rig on which he was on to bring him back to Aberdeen very early the next morning (Thursday). From the heliport, he run to the international airport next door  and got on a early morning flight to London then onwards to New Orleans.

He was back in Aberdeen by Tuesday afternoon after getting his passport expedited and back offshore by Thursday. No rest for the wicked.

Sorry I don’t have that power anymore to arrange for a helicopter for your wife but thought I’d share the story…
