I received a response from Montreal confirming the validity of the police clearance certificate to be 2 years.

This is excellent. Mine doesn't expire until October, but with a Dec DQ date, I was also getting worried about having to redo the PCC.

If you go under travel. State. Gov under immigrate you will find this under civil documents. I had to go double check it myself.  Relieved as I'm trying to save money for the eventual trip to. Montreal. 💵💰💸

I just checked and cant see it 🙈 can you take a screen shot or share where exactly it says that

This is one of the best news Ive read in a while lol but my paranoid self makes me want to email the consulate myself and have them confirm just in case.

I wouldn’t say this is a bad idea. Although I am sure the validity is extended to 2 years from what is on the DoS website and the email I received, there is still a discrepancy on the DoS website under the Montreal interview checklist Documents. If more people email this question, they will hurry up and correct this discrepancy....

Do I need to bring an updated I864 to the interview if nothing has changed, but to reflect the latest tax year as 2020? Or am I good with the original I864 (which included 2019 taxes as latest) along with the financial documents for 2020(W2, tax transcript, etc.)?

@YYZ&MIA I second to @From_CAN_2_US. The more people who'll clarify and get confirmation, I believe their web tech support will update and correct the discrepancy.

My work (ideally) would like at least 1.5 month notice for ending my employment. Super nervous to provide a "definitive" date in case if interview gets delayed or some other hiccup happens. But ofcourse would like to move asap after getting my passport back. Anyone else in the same boat and how are you handling it?

Since it’s not a ‘process’ but a life decision, it highly depends on your specific situation. For us, we’re at a financially good place that I quit once I got the interview date (my interview is next Friday) even if it goes south and take a few months, since we prioritize getting to the US as soon as I can once I have my visa in hand (I’m in tech and quite tenured in my career so a break in employment won’t affect my employment opportunities). I don’t know what is the relationship with your employer but if it’s one you don’t really care about burning, you don’t have to give them any heads up before your legal obligation to. Maybe you decide to give a 1.5 months notice when you have the passport knowing you can work on closing out your Canadian chapter in life, spend time with friends and family and take care of your affairs and maybe it will be a relaxing time for you since you’ll shed the anxiety of getting the visa. Honestly hard to tell what’s right for you guys but I sympathize deeply with your feelings ❤️

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts,  very helpful. You are right, it would really depend on my individual situation. My husband and I will need to really think over best strategy forward.

That is tough. I would perhaps have a conversation with your supervisor once you get you IL but don't give a definitive date until you feel more confident? That would still give you more time at your job and let them start posting your postition?

Would you mind posting the email address you used to receive this reply
I will also email them to ask how long the PC is valid for and share the reply just to make sure we are receiving consistent replies 🙂

I just wrote to this email requesting they confirm whether this is true:

@YYZ&MIA I can confirm this was the address I emailed. Below is what I wrote:

Dear US Consulate, Montreal

It says:

"Important: Police certificates expire after two years, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than two years ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate."

"If you previously submitted a police certifciate to NVC, it is more than one (1) year old, and you still live in that country, you must obtain and bring a more recent police certificate to your visa interview as the one you previously submitted will have expired."

Please clarify which is correct for an applicant interviewing in Montreal. Is the validity of the police certificate one year or two years?

Regards,

I'm not sure if you got an answer for your question but hoping somehow this one could help. I tracked back comments from this thread and I found most of them saying upload the most updated I864 and including the W2 & tax transcript and bring it with you on your interview.

Here is the link that I read
