Does Texas issue unlimited driver license for conditional residents?

I know that Illinois puts the same expiration date as your green card on your driver license but what about Texas? 

Does it issue unlimited DLs if the green card is conditional?

Texas issues drivers licenses based on state law, not based on the expiration date of the conditional green card.  My wife entered the US in 2017 via a CR-1, and Texas issued her a DL which expires in 2024.

7-year validity for a DL must be super nice, especially nowadays with how backed up DMVs are. Our state (MN) only does 4 years plus whatever time is needed to reach your birthday. So I guess it's possible to get almost 5 years if you apply for your DL the day after your birthday. MN also doesn't limit a DL to the duration of an unconditional green card, which is a huge relief given how long it's taking USCIS to process I751s.

Nope, my Conditional GC expires Sept this year, but the ID expires in Feb/2023. Not sure about what the formula is. I renewed the ID Oct/2020, so it can be 16 months out? 🤷‍♂️

Hello from Houston, TX.

 

When I initially got my work permit my DL had my work permit expiration 1/1/0000. Then I got married and wanted to update my last name, I thought my DL expiration date will change to that second work permit expiration date 4/4/4444, the rude lady at the DPS told me immigration had me with my first expiration date 1/1/0004.

when I got my conditional residence card I went to DPS so the “work authorization” thing will be removed from my DL, well the statement was removed but once again my expiration date showed as 1/1/0010. I mentioned to the lady that I thought permanent residents will have date of birth as expiration date. Apparently she call Austin, TX- DPS headquarters and was told that the date couldn’t be changed because that’s how it was on immigration (Department of Homeland Security).  That didn’t make any sense to me because I was a permanent resident at the time and not longer a work permit holder. 

 

Now thank God I’m a citizen and my DL will expire next year, I’m afraid that I will be told the same thing. 

 

How is possible DPS cannot manually entered the date of birth for the expiration date? I’m basically been dealing with this discrepancy since I got my second work permit. 

 

By by the way once you’re a resident your DL will expire every six years.

Got my one in July 2020 and expires In 2029 while my conditional GC expires in April 2021.

Well, last year I transferred my license from Massachusetts to Texas and I got validity until 2030. (MA was extending 1 year only each time).  I gave them I-797 letter but they just checked it. 

My cousin got his Permit for 10 years too. He is on CR-1.

To add an interesting section to this topic, my Husband is currently filing for ROC and once he got his extension letter (valid for 24 months) he went to the DMV and they gave him the new DL card that will expire in 8 years as that is for TN's standard timeframe of how long the DL will last.

 

In 2016, TN passed a law that DL will now last 8 years instead of 5 years.

Nope. Mine has a time limit, set to expire 2031.
