Application for i-751, 6 weeks w/ no response from the immigration

Hello. 

 

I need some advice. I sent my ROC last Nov. 30,2020 since my visa will expire on Feb 21. I mailed it thru USPS but without tracking. Its been 6 weeks now and they still didn't take from my account the check i sent. I'm worried now if they didn't receive it or just delayed. 

 

Should I mail a new application? 

Anyone has the same case as me please?

You submitted an I-751 package without tracking?  Why??  The I-751 package is extremely important.   I always use USPS Priority Mail.  It has never failed.   Receipts and extension letters are taking as much as a couple months right now.   The holidays affect the processing time, too.   I would just wait and watch for the funds to be debited from the bank account.

Your visa does not expire on Feb 21st.  Your Green Card expires.  Your status as a legal resident does not expire.  Only the evidence of your status expires....not the status, itself.

Sending it without tracking complicates things. 
 

You did the right thing by using a check.  So you can follow the money.  
 

If neither the check is cashed nor NOA1 is received by February 7, then send a new I-751 with a cover letter indicating that you believe the first application was lost in the mail.  With a new check.  

Between now and February 7 do the follow to prepare:

 

* set up an account on USPS dot com and enable informed delivery, and set up the ability to ship packages with priority mail. 
 

* get priority mail flat rate boxes or envelopes from the post office that will fit your new package. 
 

* write the cover letter 

 

* get the money together for your second I-751 in case both checks are cashed.  You don’t want a bounced check to mess up your application 

 

Then on February 7, create the ship meant and drop it off

Check the November or December group (I'm assuming your package didn't arrive until the beginning of December) and the google docs that's in those groups and you'll be able to see when people who sent their package around the same time get their checks cashed. I wouldn't assume that your package was lost until people who filed after the beginning of December get their checks cashed. And keep checking your bank account.

Thank you for replying and making it clear about my status too once green card expires. I was a bit worried too coz it might affect my work if my green card is expired already. But thanks for making it clear.

priority mail has a tracking # right on your USPS receipt 

i always keep receipts till person acknowledges a package

and for immigration,  i kept all receipts till he became a Citizen

The thing is i sent it thru my work. So mailman just picked it actually. I don't know why I did that. I always go to USPS office to drop it so i get the receipt but this time i didn't.

Trust me 

everything you send to immigration,  you need to have proof 

right up to naturalization and changing SS info and getting US passport

 

keep copies to cover your butt/  even a copy of the application itself

Your current employer should not ask you for new document: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/complete-correct-form-i-9/completing-section-3-reverification-and-rehires

Employers should not reverify:

• U.S. citizens and noncitizen nationals
• Lawful permanent residents who presented a Form I-551, Permanent Resident or Alien Registration Receipt card for Section 2. This includes conditional residents.
• List B documents

The way everything is backed up 6 weeks is still early to hear anything back..we applied back in may 2019 and we barely went to the interview last Tuesday

Thank you, this is important,  because many people think their status expires. Just last night read a post in another forum,  the OP was very worried and even mentioned if they will deport her

Just an update. They finally took the money from my account. It took 6 weeks for them to do so. I'm just glad they got it. Now I can sleep. Thanks for all who responded in my query.
