Thanks. This is a great comparison of plans. I submit an estimate of how much the yearly premium would be and attach it to my application ?

I think it would be better (since their here) to enroll in the annual plan, attach that and then provide information on how they intend to continue that coverage until they pass away.. not forgetting the affidavit of support only covers them for 10 years if enforced.

No disrespect, but I’m sure the CO will be thinking along the lines of how they will afford it long term without an ongoing income.

Great points; Thanks. I am able to show strong finances for the household which I was under an impression would be enough  but their own retirement/pension/real estate info is not available to be added at this point.

And that number ( their own finances) is small compared to the household finances...

I think it’s definitely worth adding, regardless of how small, even the sale value of furniture, car etc can be added to the total amount of their assets

I know I’m not USCIS, but in today’s world, unfortunately USCIS can’t rely on children doing the right thing and caring for their elderly parents? They’ll likely be thinking even if the affidavit of support was enforced, what happens to them post its expiry? You parents should really have a fall back, and that shouldn’t be them going to work. Anything that you can add to assure them they’ll be fine is best added

Affidavit of support covers much longer than 10 years.  The I-864 is into play until they are USCs, leave the USA permanently, die, or work 40 work quarters.  Since the age of the Op's parents are 66, they'd have to work minimum 10 years full time. For many that is doable, dunno about the Op's parents.

OP are you an LPR or USC?  I don't think this is in the right forum if you're a USC.

The points you mentioned above are all still applicable either I am USC or LPR right?

Won’t they be eligible to be USC after 5 years of LPR?

They might.

If they meet the requirements at that time, yes.

For I-864 purposes, becoming a USC would terminate the contract. But there is no fixed timeline here because they could choose not to become USCs (IIRC, India does not allow dual citizenship so that's a big consideration) or not qualify for whatever reason (too much time abroad, GMC, etc.).

For Medicare and SS purposes, becoming a USC doesn't just alleviate financial concerns...without sufficient work credits, they won't qualify for SS and would have to buy into each Medicare part they want.

Timelines:

Naturalising may help the Sponsor, does not help them.

Thanks I get it about SS;

What does it mean to buy into each Medicare part?
