You may get an e-mail that requests that you send documents to NVC, and they will schedule
your interview, which is a pad script sent out to "immigrant" visa applicants. Still, since the K-1
is treated as an "immigrant" during this process, you'll sometimes get notifications like this.
Just ignore them. You do everything with the Embassy once you are approved from USCIS with
a NOA2.

Thanks so much!!

Not to alarm anybody but we were approved by March 31st, case status was updated until April 1st and still they haven't gotten anything yet, I called yesterday and will do it again tomorrow, crossing fingers

when NVC receives it, does it get updated on the USCIS status checker too? Or no?

Normal shipping from USCIS to NVC is 30 days at best. Then another 7-14 days till a case number is assigned. "your mileage may vary" More patience.

yes, thank you!! i read somewhere that during transit it can get lost that's why :( scary! but praying and hoping for the best

3/24: NOA2

4/21: I called NVC and obtained the case number. (I was told on the phone that NVC received the application on 4/10.)

4/22: Checked online, shows "At NVC"

may I ask where you checked online? Is it the USCIS status checker?

Hello,

We were assigned a case by the NVC back on 03/31/2020. Is there anything I the petitioner need to do at this time? I have not received a letter from the NVC advising our case was sent to the embassy as of yet and when checking the status online, this is what it shows:

"Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish). You will find contact information for NVC at http://nvc.state.gov/ask."

Much appreciate the help.

Ignore this it is not for K-1's.

Last thing.

We need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. When we look at the left column and can't determine your timeline OR your Embassy it's hard for us to give you a factual answer. Our answers will sometimes be tailored to a specific Embassy hence the reason for you to complete your profile. If you look at the profile of others here, they have a flag for their country, so it makes it easy for us to reply as we can quickly determine their Embassy. The country that should be used is the country where the interview will take place.

So, if you could help yourself out and complete your profile that sure would help us out when we want to reply to your question with factual information.

Once you finish that then return and you will see a flag in your profile. Select it and see what wonderful information will open up for you.

Thanks

She checks at ceac.state.gov as she has her case number which allows her to determine the status of her file. I'm sure she found the information from Greenbaum's excellent PDF file found on the first page first post. It has ALL the instructions, tips, hacks, phone numbers and his grandmother's famous recipes. Oh Boy! :D

I did read the PDF file :) thanks. I know that we can check it there but you need your case number. And since we don't have ours yet I asked was if it can also be shown on the USCIS status checker when NVC receives the package. Thanks :)

The USCIS status check app is just an app created by some unofficial third party. It works the same process as you do. You go to the website and check. The app does the same thing. If no changes you leave disappointed. The app checks the same information as you and with no changes just leaves. Funny thing it never gets discourage.

Can I share somethings with you that I learned long ago about this process?

    • "the man with the gold makes the rules"
    • it will take as long as it will take
    • no one with any certainty can tell you when some process will be completed
    • Your sense of urgency will never be equaled to what USCIS, NVC or your embassy demonstrates
    • Your journey is not going to mirror someone else's experience- yours and theirs are not the same
    • They only promised you a YES or NO answer. Never an exact time that their decision would be completed
    • Lowering your expectations will make you a much more relaxed individual

Good luck on your journey

Hey Rob,

Just curious if you got your case number assigned yet? We also emailed them to update our email addresses and they told us they haven't received it yet. My fiancé received the NOA2 on April 6, 2020.

Nope. Not yet.
