Labour has an antisemitism problem, that is not to say that the Tories haven't got their own anti problem too. Corbyn is also too far to the left and is stuck in a... (have you ever watched Mrs. Maisel? Corbyn reminds me of Abe this season) well.. I'm not sure, but he's stuck. He's not the working common man and not understood by them. He's a 60's beatnik reading poetry on his bike and ranting about an idealist socialism will solve it all. Times have changed and he hasn't. Nevertheless he also supported Brexit, (something no Remainer would feel comfortable voting for) but had no actual plan of how to do it. He may have a subset of idealist young followers, but the rest are looking for something better. I think of all the passionate voices that stood up to Boris, every time he lost a vote.. it's those younger to middle aged persons the party should turn to.

Scottish Independence is on the table, but worse...I think we're heading into deeper troubling times for NI and the eventual breakup of the UK.

I only watched the first season of Mrs. Maisel but got distracted by the 8 gazillion other things in my Amazon/Netflix/Hulu queues.

I was living over in the UK for two periods of time -- 2005/6 school year, and then June-December 2008. The first was chunk was the tail end of Blair, and the second was Gordon Brown. Whatever you think about Blair and Brown, they seem to have kept the kookier parts of their party from taking over. There was at least an idea that "we're all in this together" -- the poets on bikes and the guy working a manual labor job and the students and the leftish white collar workers. From talking to Alex's mum the other month when we were over there -- she's mid-50s, so she has very vivid memories of Thatcherism -- she says that Corbyn is like the bad old days of the Labour Party in the early '80s. He's just out of touch, and just like here, they need someone to lead the party from a generation younger than the Boomers. Look at Boris -- he's basically Gen X (I think he's technically a few months older than Gen X, but close enough.) Corbyn is older than my parents, and just like Biden and Bernie and even Warren (who I admit I really admire) his experiences just don't resonate with gigantic chunks of the nation.

I admit to not paying a lot of attention to what is happening in NI. My mother's family is Irish-American and I was fed a steady diet of "the English will come and eat your babies" when I was growing up from my grandmother, and then I went and married one. So I really only heard one side of things filtered through a family that had been in this country for several generations. But when I was over there, I started understanding that the situation is a lot more nuanced, but those nuances are ones I never really got into. I am not hopeful about the union lasting my lifetime.

By the way, hope you are feeling better. ❤️

Did you find the recipe?

SNP hold in Perth and North Perthshire, the majority increased from 21 votes (!) to over 7500. Labour lost its deposit, that's how bad they did there.

It is on the list of places I want to go to before we leave. Just haven't got around to it yet. Do you recommend anything, I mean, duh, prime rib, but are there any sides you think are really good?

Also, have you been to Lawry's in Beverly Hills? House of Prime Rib seems sort of like that, but nicer, if you know the comparison I'm trying to make.

Just ate there tonight.  Awesome food.  2 month waiting list for reservations.  But I snuck in as a single walk-in in under an hour.

Wish I had taken a picture of the menu.  You can have your choice of about 5 different cuts of prime rib.  Or fish.  Salad, bread, creamed corn, creamed spinach, and (for my first time ever) Yorkshire pudding.  Which isn’t pudding AT ALL.

Two months??? We're leaving in a month. Oops. Well, I can plan for when I visit friends. Yorkshire pudding is one of my favorites -- and I make a pretty good one, I think. Did you like it? Basically bread made in meat drippings, which is kind of awesome.

The menu does sound similar to Lawry's, which I like, but it seems a little tired in there. When I was growing up, we used to go to the Tam O'Shanter which is also in the Lawry's group of restaurants, and does an excellent prime rib with all the sides (creamed spinach and corn, yorkies, etc). It also does a great toad in the hole and I love their trifle. It's LA's oldest restaurant operating in the same location, and it is really kind of special -- the Walt Disney and his animators used to eat there in the 1930s, and there are subtle nods to that heritage. But it's like over the top Scottishness, which made me cringe the first time I took Al there, but he's just interested in the prime rib and the good wine list. Their cocktails are also amaaaazing. If you find yourself in the Griffith Park area (or even Pasadena or Glendale), it is absolutely worth a visit. Especially if you like campy Scottish stuff. Oh, and the waitresses wear cute little plaid vests that show off a lot of cleavage if you like that. ;)

If you thought it was difficult to work out the No. Ireland border, try to put Scotland in the EU with England out.

Wouldn't it take quite some time for Scotland to be admitted into the EU?

One of my friends is drunk-posting on Facebook and tagged me in a post asking if I knew any available American men who are looking for a wife.

Is she cute?  And how thick is her accent?

I think she's cute! She has a very "plummy" accent and she is a lot of trouble. I love her very much but I wouldn't wish her on anyone. She is also Alex's ex so there is THAT wrinkle too -- but it goes to show that in the right circumstances, especially when you are young and there's nothing toxic, everyone can get along. :)

Is Nigel getting his no deal brexit?

Possibly not, I think from what I read. I have tried to keep up with what is going on with Brexit, as I have investments over there, and of course I have friends and family there too. It's not going to be easy, but with a greater majority I think Boris has a chance of getting a deal through.

Well, it wasn't just about Brexit. It was a full on general election with all the seats in Parliament up for grabs. It was a message about how the country wants to move forward generally, and not just about whether or not to stay in the EU. Labour had said (IIRC) that they would support a new referendum on leaving if they got in a majority. But they didn't, so unless something really crazy happens, Brexit is happening. It's going to be really, really tough over there for a while. I'm considering selling the property I own in London and getting out. It's nice to have the steady rental income but the taxation issues are so irritating anyway, and I have no intention of living there permanently.
