Thanks, that's what I told him. It's just another crutch. I didn't have a hard time quitting when I did, partially because I think my usage was more psychological than physical -- I picked up the habit from being around him when we were younger, and when we stopped being together, the habit eventually stopped except for times I was under a lot of stress. Eventually I gave it up completely when I was trying for a child and never started again. I appreciate him not stinking as much as he did when he was still smoking cigarettes, but these latest reports have me scared. It has to stop.

Interesting, my mom always told me the same. She gave up smoking when she was pregnant with me. She thought she would give it up for 9 months,  but 9 months later there was no reason or desire to pick up a pack again. She was no longer addicted. When you are not addicted, inhaling toxic chemicals doesn't have the same appeal.

Which brings up a bigger point, but one that is driving this ban. You rarely see people start smoking for the first time as adults. There is just no reason to do so. We know better, we are not taken in by the marketing, and there is no peer pressure behind it. Most people start smoking as teenagers, and the companies marketing to future customers understand that. So do the legislators.

Personally I think it's tobacco lobbyists wanting to be rid of their competition.

Could be, or a combo of either.

In the UK I regularly saw people smoking... that were pregnant, and if they weren't smoking... their husbands were busy puffing away. I wanted to scream and cry all at the same time.

Yeah, I was 20 when I picked it up, for the worst reason possible -- I wanted to an excuse to be near a guy who smoked. Pathetic!!!!!!

I did try that! He was too fixated on grinding out missions on GTA San Andreas to pay a lot of attention to me it felt like. He's since told me he was just socially dumb and should have done something sooner. We're getting married soon so I guess he figured it out.

Remember when you said he'd like you even in a trash bag? If you can't even get him to pay attention to you in that way, do you think it will get better once you have the ring? If you have to debase yourself into manipulating him, he may not be the right one for you.

Well, it WAS a long time ago. Now it's less likely to be GTA, more likely to be the latest issue of Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities these days. But more to the point, I don't NEED to "debase" myself by wearing low cut t shirts for him. Sometimes I LIKE to do that. He didn't need to be manipulated into sort of proposing to me -- some of our friends told him he needed to put up or shut up. He wants to wait until we are back in Scotland next month so we can be with his family when he proposes formally, and so he can get the family ring from his mum. And he is 100% the right one for me -- I should have realized it 14 years ago, should have shut off the $%%&%&% TV when he was playing GTA!

Sure. As time goes by, he has less interest in you, and you have to resort to more overt attention grabbing.

You do realize this is the very definition of manipulation, don't you? The man was bullied into proposing to you. You do see that, don't you?

Yes, you know it's true love when you have to literally shut the telly off to get him to pay attention to you.
