Sure. As time goes by, he has less interest in you, and you have to resort to more overt attention grabbing.

You do realize this is the very definition of manipulation, don't you? The man was bullied into proposing to you. You do see that, don't you?

Yes, you know it's true love when you have to literally shut the telly off to get him to pay attention to you.

Okay, I have had a little time to think about this (and to talk about it with the friend I had a drink with tonight). When A (the fiance) was younger, he was less socially adept. He really couldn't figure out what to do with the signals I was sending. Mostly I hung around hoping he'd notice me, low cut t-shirts or sweaters or whatever. He was by his own admission a little afraid of how he felt about me because there was an immediate connection, you know? But at the same time, A's best friend was also interested in me and he thought it would be best for everyone if he kept his distance. I wanted A more, but I eventually gave up and went out with his friend. I put all my feelings for A to one side and tried to move on. We were briefly together later that school year, but the timing was wrong. We both made mistakes in giving up when we did -- we had our reasons, none of which I feel comfortable talking about even with all this gin in me. :)

But we are back together now and have been for over two years (mostly -- there were some times I wasn't certain exactly what I wanted, but we've been solidly together for a year now). I haven't had to do anything like attention grabbing with him. We are just so goddamn grateful to be together at last after years of being apart. If anything, he was the one who had to grab my attention again -- just as he had several times in the past when things were bad and I didn't want to own up to how bad they were. And now? Well, we've been living apart the whole time, moving in together next month, so our time together is very precious -- weekends only. We are pretty focused on each other when we see each other. I'm sure this will change when we're in each other's hair more, but I have no reason to believe that he's suddenly going to ditch me to play World of Warcraft or something. He knows how neglected I was in my 1st marriage, and he doesn't want to replicate that in ours. It is very, very important to him that I know how loved and cherished I am.

And he wasn't bullied into proposing. Far from it. He was back in England for his daughter's birthday, and had a chance to hang out with his friends there, OUR friends there. The consensus was that he wasn't being fair to me or to himself in delaying moving ahead with me. What are you afraid of? they asked. Why don't you do what YOU want for a change -- do you think she'll say no? They encouraged him to TALK to me -- some part of him thinks maybe he doesn't deserve this, that after all these years I still can't make up my mind and I'll say no. (I said yes.)

And he was completely honest with me -- he wants to marry me, and he wanted me to know sooner rather than later, set out a marker saying, we are here, we are here together, but the moment needs to be something bigger than the two of us on the loveseat in my little studio. So, there really is nothing to see along the lines you set forth, Boris. I don't have to turn off the telly to get his attention, or hoover in my lingerie, or wear a lot of makeup or none at all. I just have to exist and be myself. It is so lovely to have that be the criteria for being loved after years of never being quite good enough.❤️

Do you really think so? I know Boris means well, but I think he sees a bit of his ex-wife in me and I wonder if he's just projecting a little.

It seems your entire relationship has been built on manipulation.

He knows this because of the affair you were having with him?

Based on everything you have said over many posts, it is very clear to not just myself but others, that you both have convinced yourselves of something that wasn't and isn't necessarily there, bullied and manipulated each other into a relationship, and into marriage, all the while telling yourselves that it's all because of love. Friends and family seem to have helped in this endeavor. (unfortunately you cannot choose your family, but you need better friends) I'm not a psychoanalyst, but it sounds as if you are trying to get back at your ex-husband, using this "A" for the purpose. Meanwhile, "A" seems to have his own motivations, perhaps to get back at his ex-friend. You're all a bloody mess, and should step back, get your own lives together, figure out your own motivations, or be unhappy for the rest of your lives.

The problem is, people and some less than credible companies are buying the empty cartridges and concocting their own potions.... Sometimes using very harmful chemicals. The younger consumers were buying these, because they are much cheaper. I don't think we are getting the full story here. On all of the TV coverage, they show the most famous apparatus, The Juul…… I'd like to see one person that only used  the Juul having these problems. I was a smoker and did use a Juul, from time to time, to stop smoking cigarettes..... I have recently stopped using it.

So... the topic of this thread is about e-cigs/vapes and not relationship problems and people's opinions about them... can we try to get it back on the topic?

A report came out today that there have been several cases in MD of those showing the same lung disease who were not using vapes at all, but were smoking legal medicinal marijuana. This is yet another clue that it is the marijuana sources that are contaminated. http://www.baltimoresun.com/health/bs-hs-vaping-illness-information-sought-20190912-6rxcuar5afhwznvlknlhlkizxi-story.html  I think this should hopefully provide the CDC a clue and a traceable way of which source the contamination is coming from, especially if it was purchased at a legalized business.

I think a lot of the pressure for this to happen is because of just how serious the problem is with teenage users vaping and getting addicted to nicotine because of that. As I said before, the lung disease made it easier to get people on board and support it. I don't think that's actually what is driving it though.

We recently had legislation passed here in Colorado that will raise the age for all tobacco purchase to 21 years of age instead of 18. The idea behind that is that 18 year old's tend to hang around with 17 and 16 year old's, which sort of leads to that group having easier access to the products. I'm not sure how effective increasing the age will be, but I think targeting all nicotine products and targeting them specifically for that age group is probably a better way to go. The measure it's getting a lot of push back from sellers and producers of nicotine products.

Ban Hammer: My husband loves that quote and that movie. He will burst out laughing every time he sees it, so much I'll often send that picture to him on work days to cheer him up.

I think DE just passed a law raising it to 21 years as well. Makes sense to me of course, but that won't stop a lot of kids from smoking anyway. I've still yet to understand how vapes were marketed as a healthier alternative or that could help someone quit. Seems just as unhealthy and dangerous as cigarettes. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/can-vaping-damage-your-lungs-what-we-do-and-dont-know-2019090417734

It was raised to 21 here in CA as of 2016. I agree it won't stop some kids from smoking, but it will make it harder.

I just sent that Harvard article to my fiance, thanks yuna. :) I'm sure he'll latch onto this part though:

Perhaps vaping should be viewed as a “lesser of evils” for current cigarette smokers.
