If my wife spent $35 on those I would be appalled. $350 for braided hemp sandals insult my pedestrian mid-west values ... but fashion is not my forte

I thought Tony Burch followed Margaret Thatcher as PM

Plus 1000.  My wife wear some pretty stylish shoes most days, but gets upset if I pay more than $50 for a pair.  I'd say the majority of her shoes range $25-35.

No wonder Laylalex's ex divorced her!

:( He's actually the one who got me wearing designer shoes/clothes, etc. He wanted his wife to reflect well upon him, so that meant dressing well. When I met him, I was very much J Crew/Banana Republic/etc. And since I can afford it/could afford it, that's how I dress/dressed. The divorce was based on what he claimed was an affair, but absolutely was not. I did not start a relationship with my fiance until after the separation.

My fiance is worse than me when it comes to shoes -- John Lobb monkstraps and Oxfords, generally, for work. I feel relatively conservative when it comes to shoes compared to him! But he does wear relatively cheap sneakers (Chuck Taylors) so there IS that, small mercies. Also, those John Lobbs last FOREVER, he has a pair that he's had resoled a couple of times that he bought just out of uni.

I'm teasing you.  What you buy & wear is none of my business.   But I AM thankful that my esposa puts more value on savings than clothing.   Helps my sanity.

I know some people feel they have to display themselves in expensive clothing/pens/shoes, but I have never understood why.  Nothing wrong with good quality, but not everything that is economical is cheap, and not everything that is expensive is top quality.

I had a pair of Dockers deck shoes that lasted me over 8 years before I tossed them.  Wore them hard.  Can't remember the price, probably between $50-70.  Compared to his John Lobbers, I could buy a new pair of shoes every single year for 15-20 years and still save money.  Especially if I went crazy and wore one pair for two years.

I was kidding

I try to keep good natured about it -- forgive me if I am occasionally thin-skinned. ❤️

And yes, I have expensive tastes in shoes, and clothing, and handbags, and, and, and... and it's nice to blame it on a MAN. :D

ON TOPIC POST!

(wait what)

Literally just got out of a birthday party at work for one of the lawyers. Six of us around the table, four men, two women and we discussed the following without anyone getting offended:

  • Paris Hilton (sex tape)
  • Kim K (also sex tape)
  • Genital herpes
  • How hard is it to sue someone for transmission of an STD
  • Loss of consortium, and having to testify in depo about positions
  • Whether one lawyer's ex was a sl*t or not
  • Whether another lawyer's ex was a sl*t or not
  • The embarrassment of buying birth control for a sibling
  • Best restaurants in LA to ensure you seal the deal
  • Hot Orthodox chicks

Could be because we're a small, tight-knit team, but no one took any offense, and we laydeez took part as much as the men in this conversation. Guess we're just lucky to work here!

And the later toasts of the evening probably became increasingly intense versions of "Sue the illegitimate male children!"

So what was the consensus about the two exxes?  And fotos or it didn't happen.

Jewish Orthodox or Greek Orthodox?  Fotos or it didn't happen.

On a serious matter, si Maven ma'am:  would like your analysis of why Bram v. U.S. (1897) isn't good law today, when it looks as though it should be in terms of coerced police confessions:

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Tread carefully dear Maven! Wouldn't want one of your boy-toy interns getting dollar signs in his eyes and deciding you've turned the workplace hostile! 😉

In seriousness, it is nice to see that co-workers can still be friends. I was lambasted by some here for having friendships with my co-workers, but perhaps you will fare better.

Luckily I know enough not to hire boys, who are really only suitable for employment as chimney sweeps.

I am lucky indeed, dear Boris. I have even won around the young man who thought I was being a misogynist when I endorsed a woman's choice to become a gold digger. I can be very... persuasive.
