Interesting the husband said he can't travel to get married while on a green card....but he could travel to another country for consummation of the marriage?

I wonder if the wife could manage to come to the US (or Canada or wherever does not acknowledge their proxy marriage) to freshly marry the husband. Then in the eye of the US immigration they just married once.

The challenge would be for her to get a B-2 visa in which to do that.  I don't see that happening at all.

As a previous post mentioned the OP may get his GC via asylum. Just a guess.

But if he just couldn't travel to his home country, why not just travel to another country (in this case he and the wife later ended up going to Sri Lanka) in the first place to get married?

Our CR1 Journey:

USCIS Stage:

  • Feb 14 2019: NOA1 (NSC)
  • July 31 2019: I129f NOA1
  • Sep 19 2019: I129f NOA2 (Denied - 50 days from NOA1)
  • Sep 19 2019: I130 NOA2 (Approved - 217 days from NOA1)

NVC Stage:

  • Sep 27 2019: Sent to Department of State
  • Oct 31 2019: Case number received (34 days since sent)
  • Nov 1 2019: IV & AOS fees received & paid
  • Nov 14 2019: IV & AOS submitted
  • Dec 18 2019: All docs accepted, but one additional doc requested (5 weeks from submission)
  • Dec 18 2019: Requested doc submitted
  • Feb 19 2020: Documentarily Qualified (9 weeks from 2nd submission, 14 weeks from first submission)

Interview Stage:

  • Mar 11 2020: Interview letter received
  • Apr 1 2020: Interview date
  • Mar 17 2020: Interview cancelled due to COVID-19
  • August 3 2020: Rescheduled letter received, new appointment August 25 2020
  • August 25 2020: Visa approved at interview! (558 days from NOA1)
  • September 10 2020: Embassy received passport in mail
  • September 15 2020: Passport with visa in hand

October 11 2020: Arrived in US!

Their marriage timeline is: 1) proxy marriage in 2016 and 2) consummation in 2018

My wild guess would be they initially wanted the marriage to take place asap. If they both went to Sri Lanka to marry, then the date on marriage certificate would be of 2018 (or at least later than the date of the proxy).

Edit: suppose due to whatever reason, the travel to a third country for OP was not possible before the proxy marriage happened.

How about a third country who does not deem proxy marriage as legal? Maybe Canada or some state in Europe? Those countries are relatively easier for her to get a visa, I think.

We know they can get to Sri Lanka.

Europe, maybe...Canada, not so much these days.

Marriage in Sri Lanka seems the best bet since they both can already travel there.

It seems the subject of this thread has created a mess by registering this Skype "marriage" in Pakistan........

Hello everyone! Anyone who has knowledge about the story please kindly share their  experiences....

a person (f2A category,6 months left for his citizenship ,state Massachusetts) Did Skype online marriage in 2016 and registered also in his homeland country and avoided traveling as entered as refugee in the USA this is the reason..

then he planned for his wedding ceremony and went to the 3rd country in 2018 and did all major wedding functions with his whole family but did not registered again in the 3rd country because he already registered in his homeland country !! Now he has entered his spouse Case in end of 2019 .... so now give us suggestions is it gonna be approved or not ? Or he should go again that 3rd country and do registered their marriage again in person with his wife ???? Is it possible to registered after 2 years; they will accept it ?? Really confused
