The opposite is recommended because of N-565 processing times: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ During N-565 processing would only have copies. Copies can't be used like the original (i.e. I-9 purposes, etc.)

I've been a USC my entire life. Most of the people I see on a daily basis are the same. None of them ever carry around any of those documents on a daily basis. Many of them don't even have a passport, and several of them don't know where their BC even is.

There's much more harm (identity theft) that could occur carrying around sensitive documents than not.

More seriously:  Passport card is a fabulous idea.

 

Your demeanor and bearing will also have something to do with how you're perceived.  If you see ICE agents, or if any approach you, act normally, look them in the eye, etc.  If you speak first, say something like "Thank you for all that you do" (even if you don't personally believe it).  Perhaps rather regularly, they get cursed at, abused, and maybe even spat on, so a little courtesy or normal treatment might defuse their suspicions.

I wasn't aware we were arguing.  I said carrying the Naturalization Certificate around 24/7 is moronic---not that carrying around any sort of documentation is moronic.  If we're arguing, then at least quote me in context.  

 

Like I said, ICE probably wouldn't be interested in seeing a copy...heck even USCIS themselves won't accept a photocopy of the certificate under most circumstances.

 

I wouldn't want to be detained, of course---but I also wouldn't want to lose that certificate or have it stolen---even if it was just a photocopy (identify theft).

 

Ah, well...If I did end up getting deported, I suppose I could think of worse places than Canada.

Curious about this story.  So he lied to Federal LEOs, I think they throw people in jail for that in Washington.

According to the local ICE spokesman. Yet, when pressed for further comment he stated he couldn't respond because of the partial government shutdown. IMO, if the DOJ charges Ramos-Gomez with 18 U.S.C. § 1001 it's a very weak case.

This article is pretty enlightening...shows the screen shots of email messages back and forth between the officer who reported Ramos-Gomez and his ICE contact (he was off duty when he did so, apparently,  after only seeing a photo of the man on a news broadcast according to Ramos-Gomez's lawyer)...as well as other messages...it's a bit of a long read, but worth it.

 

Also noted in the article is that the officer who phoned ICE was previously involved in 2 separate incidents regarding racial profiling.

I was thinking about buying a passport card once my booklet expires in 2021 but then somewhere in between then I got the Sentri card (for expedited border crossings from Mex to USA).  I have noticed that the Sentri card is pretty much accepted in the airports for domestic travel and other places where i need to present a federal ID.  The agents at the US-Mex border also consider it like a passport card so you don't have to go around carrying both the booklet and Sentri card into Mexico. The card says under birth "USA" and foreigners "Mexico" or "any other country".  Green Card holders on the other had have to carry both GC and Sentri (if they have it).

Yup; it's on the TSA ID list: https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/identification
