USCIS Aims to Decrease Processing Times for N-400 and I-485 [merged threads]

The ironic thing is that my husband and I were deliberating of moving to Tucson, AZ.  We changed our address in February with USCIS thinking about we would be facing a long wait time.  The very next week, we had an interview letter!  We had an interview in April.  However, we didn't move, so we couldn't proceed with the application - it got sent back to Dallas.  We did get the ROC case approved, though.  So if this policy had been active, maybe my husband could have received his citizenship this month?

Without this policy, we are looking at an interview date for December 2019 to February 2020.  Maybe with this change, we might be able to get September 2019 to November 2019?  Or we will be right before full implementation...

It has already been in implementation for over 2 months, at least at MSP and impacted my husband's year old N-400. 👍

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

NY to NJ or CT sounds more reasonable. Although if they ask us to go to Guam to interview, we'll make a trip out of it. 😁

I believe they'll just move the ones that are within reasonable distance. Like Manhattan, Brooklyn to Newark NJ, Newark NJ to Mount Laurel, Orange county and LA. That kind of shares. I don't think they'll move 1000's of miles from original field office, though mine could be moved to Cali, wouldn't mind for a quick vacay lol

I take it as a good step from USCIS to acknowledge that processing times are too long, instead of just saying "its immigration, deal with it". Glad USCIS is moving to positive direction

Probably congressional pushing from within forced them to make this change.  Why would USCIS have motivation from within to change their processing times?

It’s an executive branch agency.  Congress can make inquiries, but they can only draft laws.  It’s the executive branch’s responsibility to apply and implement them.  It would be an executive branch thing, not legislative.

Can't tell but there are some motivators.

Clogged helplines, i'd assume increased Expedites and contacts from state representatives to inquire for people, filled up interview spots months ahead, complaints from all over the US about the length of processing, need of additional people hired within the office to process cases, lack of funds to hire, and of course the congress, house of reps pushing as well. I learned that with USCIS it's never one factor influencing their decision, it's usually a combination of some. But i'm just speculating here.

Hopefully, there is enough capacity in offices relatively nearby the busy offices to equalize the workload.

Seems like USCIS transferring IOs. Our IO moved to Colorado from Montana right before our interview, that was in April

We weren't called for ROC interview and I don't think many people are called. Would make sense to eliminate them except in the rare case that fraud is suspected.

We lucked out at all stages of our journey as far as wait times go and we never had any RFEs. I feel for people who have encountered long wait times...

Agreed on this, this is actually I did when I submitted my i-751 application, I bombarded them with my 5 inches thick evidences to eliminate the RFE and interviews that will cause delay in adjudicating my application.

Same thing I did for my N-400 application. I attached many evidences from start of the marriage to the present when I submitted my application online.

I believe if you're will prepared on each application, chances of RFE is zero at all. :)

That's painful and unfair that even after having had the interview you have to wait again...

100%. And the "increased number of applicants" excuse doesn't hold up as everyone pays a fee to apply so where has all that additional money gone? It should be used to pay for additional staff to process the applications!

I would be more than happy to drive to Albany NY (which is closer to me than NYC anyway!) The wait times are much shorter in Albany.  Not sure why they have our zip code in NYC
