Rather than sending dozens or hundreds of applicants to an office 2-4 hours away, wouldn't it make sense to send a few immigration officers to a neighboring office for temporary duty? For example, send 2 Portland officers to Seattle for a week, then send 2 different officers the next week, and so on.

That is already standard operating procedure and has been as long as I've been on VJ.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

The reason why Portland shows up when you search for Washington state is because the Portland field office officially serves a number of zip codes in the Washington state.

I see I guess that explains why Oklahoma city shows up under Texas too.

The someone in the Seattle thread was scheduled for an interview in Portland even though they filled/live in Seattle.

Looks like there is a number of people in NY who've experiences similar transfers too. This all seems to have started in the last 2 months.

Houston's wait time is ridiculous :( I would fly to wherever they want me if it means less waiting time.

@pearla I don’t get the same results.  I still get the Irving office.  But looking at the case load from last quarter, I suspect that if my husband’s case were to get graced in, then it would be OKC, El Paso or Harlingen, TX.  May it happen, but who knows.  I will keep an eye to see if my local office changes.

I was just looking as the list by "State" not by "Zip Code"

I know that your local office might be "Irving" by your address Zip Code but since Oklahoma city shows up under "Texas"' maybe they'll transfer cases there?? It would be roughly a 4 hour drive for you?

This would be similar to the case that got scheduled for interview in Portland while they filled/live in Seattle (also 4 hour ish drive)

And again the cases in NY -> NJ

It's just wishful thinking for now. Maybe we'll see some movement in the coming month.

Looking at your timeline, I see that your case was transferred? where was it filed and where did it get transferred to?

It was transferred, but not in the traditional sense.  In February, my husband and I were contemplating moving to Arizona where my mother was due to my company's re-organization.  So we went ahead and changed our address to Tucson thinking we might as well get the case in line over there.  Well, as it turned out, we received an interview notice ONE WEEK LATER!!!!!  Can you imagine?  The interview was about 6 or 7 weeks from the letter.  Well, as things progressed, I ended up with a promotion, and we planned the trip to have the interview anyways.  We couldn't move forward with the USC application because we weren't in the field office's jurisdiction.  But the IO did process the pending ROC case, which was really great.  In the meantime, the USC case was transferred back to Dallas, TX.

Oh, the rivalry between Dallas and Houston, huh?  Always trying to out-do each other.  The latest performance data for USC cases shows that Houston had 37,245 pending cases and Dallas had 37,160 - both offices have the highest number of pending USC cases for the entire country.  Great.

I just saw that if you click on the field office name, in the field office locator search (https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/field-offices), it tells you that they are going to be transferring cases. This may be an indication of which field offices are transferring cases. I only checked MD.  This is what appeared.

Maybe this strategy of redistributing cases is being rolled out on the East Coast first as a trial to see how things go? That's one possibility...

From what I see, the redistribution notice has been posted on the field office profiles for these states:

CT

MD

ME

NH

NJ

NY

RI

VT

So it seems the initial focus is the north-eastern corner....

And these all form part of the Northeastern Region of USCIS:
