So to you, 65% of Americans are a "tiny elite"?

And let's not forget that it was YOUR party who promoted slavery and fought so hard to keep it going.

Which has NOTHING to do with the stupidity of age 16 voting, BTW.

That is an asinine comment. No different from the people who say it was YOUR ancestors.

P.s. I wasn't around back when slavery was a thing, but some of people here, kind of the give the impression that they were, just going by their old fashioned views.

P.p.s. the Democratic party of the 19th century is significantly different from the 21st century version. Same goes for the party of Lincoln.

He said land owners, not home owners. Yes, home owners obviously do typically own the land their home is built on, but usually when people refer to land ownership, they are referring to farm land.

At any rate, I can't fathom why anyone would be in favor of the disenfranchisement of a significant portion of the population.

I own several pieces of Property, not one is a farm . That concept is absurd

I'll put a twist on the landowner idea - net tax payers maybe? That would mean 16 year olds could vote if they work.

But that's the thing what would go entry level jobs 19 years ago like at a job at say McDonald's is now being taken up by people trying to support a family. That's why the whole $15 an hour is becoming prominent.

Most of us are NOT wanting to disenfranchise people.  That's why the electoral college exists, to protect us from extremists and the co-located masses.

Do YOU think the people in the tiny red square should decide what the people in the blue states get?

Ok, I'll bite... how is it asinine?

There is no one left alive today from that time. Neither the Democrats or the Republicans of the 19th century are the party of anyone currently alive on this earth. Just as no one alive today has a claim to reparations for those long dead, neither is either party today responsible for the political and social injustices that occurred in the 19th century or earlier. I'll even overlook how the platforms of each party have switched completely, because it makes no difference. We are all responsible for our own actions.
