Yeah, I like 60's outside but not in the house lol. I'll likely stick with electric until further notice.

  Whenever I have looked into it, the cost difference wasn't too much. I have considered going electric in the hopes that it might stop my wife from setting the thermostat to 78F all the time. I've heard electric heat is better at getting the heat where you actually need it.

Electric heat is not very good if it gets very cold,  IMO.  Spot heating, or overall light heat,  sure.  But I could not fathom the electric bill when outside temps dip below 0°, personally.

    Ours was supposed to use the furnace as the emergency heat when it got too cold, but we had to manually switch it. The guy who owned the house before us was a DIY'er, so it was probably wired wrong anyway. A lot of stuff was in that house. By that time I realized we needed to turn on the furnace, it was usually 60 degrees and 2 in the morning, so we gave up with that and just used the furnace all the time instead of the heat pump.

   Our new house is one year old, and they really do a good job now on making them energy efficient. Even this week, our furnace wasn't on all that much and it was pretty warm inside. We have space heaters in case the furnace goes out so I am curious to see how they would do. Not in a hurry to find out though. Our old house was better at heating up the outdoors.

Easy. Just shut off your furnace and run the space heaters.  Might as well know if they are adequate before you really do need to use them. You might need more, might be perfect...but at least you can be prepared and have peace of mind.
