Hi B-B!

We're in the same boat. My grandpa passed away unexpectedly, 1,5 week ago. :( A day after it happened, I called USCIS and asked for an expedite process. It was 07/18 and the lady I spoke to (maybe it was the same one because she wasn't too friendly and she was definitely hard to communicate with) told me they will contact me back within 5 days, either by email or phone. On 07/22 I received an email requesting documents. On 07/23 I have faxed:

  • his death certificate and its certified English translation,
  • his medical death certificate in native language with my comments provided in English,
  • my dad's ID with the name of his father printed on it
  • my birth certificate and its certified English translation.

I decided to attach the last two documents to prove that my grandpa was actually my grandpa. I haven't heard anything back since then and decided to call USCIS yesterday (07/26) and speak to Tier 2 officer. He submitted a service request on my behalf and said they should contact me back before 08/10. The funeral has already happened this week and I have a bad feeling about my expedite request..

Hi Martacz,

I am sorry for your loss! You can probably relate to the frustration and sadness I feel. My grandma was old but not being there with my family to process her death is an even tougher pill to swallow.

Thank you for your information about the documents you’ve submitted. I only have my grandma’s international death certificate but I’ll probably send in mine brith certificate and my dad’s passport to also prove the relationship.

I can’t believe you haven’t heard anything back though, that’s insane..

I hope for the both of us that we will get clarity soon so that we can go home and be with our loved ones.

Hello everyone,

231 days since my NOA1 now and no sign of EAD/AP. In 2 weeks I will be able to make an inquiry. I hope to get it before that, but just trying to get prepared with the inquiry process. Does anyone have experience with that?

Is it better to make an inquiry via phone or online? How long does it take from the inquiry to receive answer or better the EAD/AP?

I have a bit of situation: I have a booked flight to my country at the end of August. I know I shouldn't have bought it without the EAD/AP in hand, but I bought it when the processing times were still 5-7months so I didn't think that I wouldn't have it after 8months +.

Oh no, I am not familiar with inquiry stuff but it's best to talk to a tier 2 person if you call.  they are currently working on November 26, 2018 and based on your timeline you applied December 6, hopefully you hear something within the next 2 weeks. and once you do it takes about a week to get card in the mail(so it's cutting it close to your travel date). I hope that you get it before your trip. have faith!

223 days and finally - New card is being produced! We’ve updated our timeline already for anyone who wants more details.

Re i485 still haven’t received anything since “ready to be scheduled” letter but at least now I can start my job hunt and they can move as slow as they want!

FYI we didn’t expedite or phone or anything.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

I think they are referring to the case inquiry date, which is Nov 26 today. But unfortunately it doesn't seem that being out of "normal" processing times is that unfrequent....

i just tracked it on this website below, you just pick the form and location(for EAD is most likely the national benefit center) although i dont know how accurate this website is, but the date does change on a weekly basis. im sure there are some left behind. In your case, when you see that date passes your NOA1 date,  it's time to submit an inquiry request or try to call them to see what's going on since you are 1 day away from outside processing time. good luck.

Hey guys!

For the EAD the processing time is 2,5 months to 5 months again!! The inquiry date now is March 2nd, 2019 at the NBC!!

If that is true then I'm three months overdue. And I could've landed that $150k per year job. 😦

WOW. I just checked and you are right. Just WOW. Happy for everyone else embarking on this journey but to be one of the groups to endure their incompetency is so frustrating. I feel like we should get a proportionate refund of our fees LOL 🤣 *dreaming*

Wait what does that mean for people who applied for it way before like in December? Can I make an inquiry?
