Ok so how do I go about that?

In 2 weeks the poverty guidelines will go about about #300 to $400. Financials you don't submit until you are at NVC. So about 8 to 10 months from when you file you will need to submit financials.
Get a joint sponsor that makes the income guideline. It will be their household size plus your wife.

They increase the sponsor income requirements each year, we never know how much and whilst it is usually around $300 to $400 it can be up to $1000 more hopefully it will be changed soon so you will know what you are up against

Have you and your wife discussed where you are going to live when she gets here? No offense is intended but she might have expectations of your own apartment or even a house. Does she have employable skills? Will she need to retrain or go to school?

While you may be asked for up to 3 years of tax returns, you are not required to have made above the requirement all three years. You only need to show that your income at the time of filing the I-864 during the NVC stage (8+ months after filing as someone else mentioned) meets or exceeds the minimum requirement. So lets say you make under the requirement now, but 6 months from now you get a job that pays you $30k/year, then 2 months later when you file the I-864 you will be asked for your current income. At this point you are free to write down $30k. You will most likely be asked to provide supporting documents such as pay stubs and bank statements, but if you truly are making above the requirement these should be easy to provide.

Disability and SSI will likely not cover the co sponsorship. Typically you are not allowed to make more than 12,000 dollars a year to stay on disability (as a single adult). If you make sure than that is will be taken away. It's kind of a backwards system to get people doing things again.

You might want to look for another co-sponsor. Good Luck!

Not the difference. The joint sponsor would need to earn enough to cover their household + the intending immigrant. You cannot combine incomes from petitioner to joint sponsor.

That is a great point which should be emphasized.  I have seen posters who thought that, and later they had issues and delays...

Some valid points. While I had ensured I had adequate funds for the petitioning process and AOS, I even took a 5k loan out of my 401k account so we could put down payment on a car for him (he makes the payments and all), get some driver ed courses done. Hell, until we got the car if I couldn't take him for work/somewhere he used Uber and that added up quickly. we bought a few extra little things of furniture( let him kind of customize a bit).

Think a lot of people don't maybe realize the overall costs that come up when trying to settle in. Hell just the extra groceries add up fast. And it isn't even "fancy" stuff, just kind of necessities.

Agreed!

We were planning on purchasing one car over the AOS period for my husband (we specifically had 10,000 dollars saved for the down payment) but we didn't expect another driver to run a stop sign and total my car. So then we added a second unplanned car purchase with another 8,000 dollar down payment.

Add this to having a small wedding and the immigration fees (immigration fees were the least expensive thing over the 6 month AOS period). We were lucky my husband had employment the week after the EAD arrived (the timing worked out perfectly with a job offer). My husband had previously worked in Maryland and kept up with contacts over the 2 years he was overseas to help his job opportunities when he would move back but finding employment can also be very challenging.

We spent 18 months both working 2 jobs to save for the AOS prior to his move to the US.
