is the beneficiary allowed to call NVC to ask if they assigned a case number?

Yes, beneficiary or petitioner can call as long as they have the USCIS case number and know both people's birth dates.

Our case was received by NVC on Jan. 31 and still no case number. I guess I got spoiled by how fast they received it.

Oddly enough, our case still says received at USCIS.

So now we’re back in the dark. Lol

I know I shouldn’t, but I’ve been calling NVC twice a day for the last week. Once at noon and again after 6p lmao. I hope they don’t black ball our case number lol but I can’t help myself.

We're in the exact same boat, except that they got my case on the 29th. I've been calling every day, and I've definitely called twice a few times 😂😂 I wonder if it has anything to do with the embassy it will go to. I think it would explain why some people get their case numbers in a week and others in 20 days??

I was thinking the same thing. Also worried about it going in the mist of Carnival in Brazil. Hope that doesn’t slow things down at the embassy.

I don't think that would slow anything down, 'cause it's technically a US government building. Maybe there's just a little slowdown based on the number of beneficiaries from Brazil. Whatever it is, they need to get it resolved fast lol, my fiance already filled out the DS-160, he's just waiting for me to give him our case number.

Just called the NVC and our case was received at the embassy!

What is your NOA2 date? We got approved Jan. 26, so we should receive our case # soonish. How were you notified that they received your petition? Just by calling?

I think you can start calling! Our case number was generated 15 (stated wrong in previous posts - I wrote 10 instead of 15, haha!) days after NOA2 approval, but I called a few days later thinking that it would take longer.

You can wait for the email from NVC that they send once they've forwarded your petition to the Embassy/Consulate, but your case number should be available a couple days prior to that. Calling will just let you find out quicker. NVC keeps petitions for roughly 2 weeks from received till forwarded.

See here on how to contact NVC: https://sites.google.com/view/post-noa2/home
