Just filed for citizenship today along with 2018 taxes! Am looking forward to seeing how this whole process goes as far as wait times and online filing etc and hopefully being a bit more informed as to what they are doing with our file instead of being stuck on

"we received your case Jan 30, 2018..."

I want to take your path, but I'm still contemplating.

The way we decided to do it was because:

.05: financially we are in a place for shell out $725 right now. With our first kid on the way it will be harder to do that...and we don't plan on stopping at one lol. Kids are expensive here in the US :dead:

1: we plan to live in Nicaragua in our future so being able to travel freely to and from there without having to get additional visas is great cuz Nicaragua is a difficult country to procure a tourist visa

2: His country allows for dual-citizenship

3: Immigrations keeps hiking up the fees for everything seemingly every other year or so. I don't want to pay $1500 to renew (just speculation) one day. Something like that, although doable, is quite a chunk of cheddar for us.

4: (warning; this is purely my opinion so don't take this as anything other than that) with the current political climate/ rhetoric towards immigrations anything, we don't know how hard and strict things might become to just be a greencard holder

So you gotta look at it as a whole and figure out what works for you as a family. Some people are green card holders their whole lives and it works for them; and have no choice because their countries don't allow being dual OR they have to forsake their home- country citizenship. We just want to be able to wash our hands of immigrations once and for all and the opportunity is there for us to do so.

some good points here. US passport definitely helps you a lot. I do not agree with point 4 though. I do not see anything changing radically with the policy for GC holders. You do know there are cases where valid US citizens living in mexico or other south american countries were struggling to renew their passport. Good luck to you in your journey :)

si! that's why I did the forewarning for #4 because that's purely our personal opinion on things but it is one factor/thought between my husband and I that leads us to file citizenship right now. I know of a few people in Nicaragua who have trouble because they having been living as "perpetual tourists"for years, making money and holding jobs (big no no) instead of seeking residency aka: "doing things the right way" according to the Nica constitution so when they are seeking to renew their passport it's finally coming back to bite them in the butt. I don't feel bad for them one bit.

Does anyone know what happen with VSC ? about 2 weeks ago when I went in USCIS website to check the processing time for form i751 it showed 15.5 - 18.5 months and the receipt date for a case inquiry is July 27"2017 but today it showed 15.5 - 19.5 months and the receipt date for a case inquiry is June 27"2017. It was slower than before 😱 thats mean who filed at this office will get 1 more month to wait 😤😪

They slowed down even more...simple as that. I-751 are not a priority - never have been. They likely have increased their workload of other petitions and do not have sufficient adjudicators assigned to process the I-751 quickly enough without increasing the backlog...this has been going on for years now.

I would estimate that the lucky ones among us Jan filers will hear something by April/May. The unlucky ones will still be waiting in the fall of this year...

I mean, there are filers from July 2017 and earlier still waiting, so be better get comfy...

There is at least one person here who is a January 2018 filer who recently received an approval.  All in all - there is no logic at all in how they process the case.  A lot of people I personally know who filed in November 2017 and December 2017 at VSC are still hearing nothing...cricket, while lots and lots of people who filed in January 2018 at CSC have been getting either an approval or RFE within the last two weeks.

I am a March filer and I couldn’t even fathom what my wait time might be even if today was March 2019

Hmmm.  These are the countries from the users who are getting approved:

Philippines

Australia

Vietnam

Tunisia

Germany

Vietnam

Liberia

Users with no country: PP1991, NinaG,Eli_za

I'm guessing it's not a coincidence that all the approvals are outside of central and South America but I guess we'll know once we see more approvals in the weeks to come.
