Hey there guys,

I hope my journey is coming to an end. Just received notification that my n-400 interview has been scheduled. My I-751 is still pending as of Feb 2018. It has been transferred from Vermont to Texas then to Missouri. I applied for n-400 back in feb 2019. I hope its a combo interview, I'm really tired with this process and traveling all over the world with this extension letter which faded and you can barely see letters on it lol.

Hi there,

We are on the same boat. I have a pending i751 since dec 2017 and filed n400 in feb 2019. I just got interview notice, too. My time is at 1PM, so I dont know if they are ever aware of my pending i751. I’m just afraid I have to reschedule for later day :(

Good luck to both of you! Make sure to update us on what went down after your interviews :)

I realized calling USCIS to ask about combo would just add to our unknowns. So I just assumed it is combo and went in with my wife. When we got there, they told us it's gonna be just N400. Last minute, the officer decided to do both! So she was there and it was great that we did both and got both approved at the same time.

08/15/2019: We scheduled your interview for N-400
08/16/2019: I-751 Case transferred & new office has jurisdiction (NBC)
08/16/2019: I-751 Case was received at my local office
09/17/2019: Combo interview conducted, no decision can be made

Interview Experience:
Our interview was scheduled at 11:45a CT at Chicago Field Office. We (me, spouse & kid) arrived an hour early, completed checked in procedures by 11:15a CT and were waiting to be called. There is no order in which applicants are called in for the interview, it's random.

Finally at 12:15p CT, I was called in (not spouse & kid). Took oath to speak the truth. Officer was very professional & explained the entire process that requires him to adjudicate I-751 first in order to adjudicate N-400. There I saw my 5" thick I-751 petition on his desk.

He first went over I-751 petition line by line to verify/update. At the end, he asked me questions & noted down a timeline of how/when/where me & my spouse met, my status at the time, engagement, wedding, etc. I signed his response on the petition.

Then we moved on to N-400. Started with Civics test, 6 questions asked, I got all of them correct. (1) Civil Rights Movement led by MLK (2) 100 Senators in Congress (3) POUTS leads Executive Branch (4) George Washington is FF (5) 2 Cabinet Positions (6) Allegiance to US. He asked me to read a sentence & write one. Passed reading & writing test.

We then went over N-400 application line by line to verify/update. Asked yes/no questions. Although he did go out of context to ask me if I understood what a "genocide" is? (WEIRD, but I answered).

Finally, I gave him continued evidence - tax returns, insurance, bank statements, mortgage statements, health insurance, etc. I was then handed N-682 stating that I passed civis & english test, however a decision could not be made. He was courteous to inform me that he had to request CSC to grant him permission to approve I-751 first (WHY WASN"T THIS DONE AS PART OF CASE TRANSFER, UGHH) and then he would approve N-400 which should take about a week or so.

We'll see, one step closer.

Just had my oath yesterday, you only need Oath letter and greed card. They asked other docs you may have (e.g. employment authorization card, etc.) but not required,  they basically just take whatever you gave to them and destroy it since you don’t need them anymore once you became citizen.

I had schedule N400 intverview yesterday. Its weird in my opinion. the IO didn't mention anything about I751 at all.

We started with N-400 interview with 6 civic questions, read and writing parts. Also, went over the 'yes, no' questions on the application.

She asked to list our children names, and while i answered those, she said to wait for her approved our I-751. I guess it help that i came with my spouse and our new born son.

We approved for both.

Now my I-751 stay the same, 'case was transferred on Aug. 6, etc.....' but my N-400 status change to case approved in my account, with the estimated completion of Dec. However, the online case status tracking said 'we place in line for oath ceremony'.

Hopefully this will be over soon.

I finally had my joint interview. It went very well, interviewer was impressed with my application. N-400 and I-751 both got approved after I left the interview, N-400 status is now saying "oath ceremony scheduled", I-751 says "new card in production". They told me to bring the new green card to oath ceremony if it gets delivered before the oath ceremony, and mail it back if it gets here after the oath ceremony.

Timeline

I posted this a while back, but I am posting an update:

  • We filed for AOS in November 2017
  • AOS was transferred to Laguna Nigel, CA March 2018
    • It sat untouched, according to records, since then.
  • Filed for Naturalization in January 2019
  • Got I-551 passport stamp July 2019
  • Naturalization interview August 2019
    • Reviewer was stunned that the status had not been resolved. Refused to conduct both interviews. Sent us home with RFE, due within thirty days.
    • RFE handed in September 2019
  • Notification that AOS application was sent to Lees Summit, MO (not our local office.)
  • Foreign passport will expire June 2020. We must travel back, renew the foreign passport--which will now have no I-551 stamp in it--and then what?

There has been absolute silence. I do not know where these things are. I do not know what is going on, or how long to wait. I do not know what to do. I have heard that they have to decide one way or the other about the naturalization interview within four months, but they say no. I have read that it might take San Bernardino 23 months to adjudicate a green card--does that mean that we have to restart the queue once it is finally transferred? Has anybody had an experience like this? Should I call and ask for them to expedite this process somewhat? Is this overlong? Should we lawyer up? I would really appreciate some assistance here.
