I have been to Asheville many times, I am from 2 1/2 hours East of Asheville. I am actually hoping that I get a job offer to Asheville soon so I can move my family there from California.  It's a nice city, a little to liberal for me but I am willing to take it if I can move back to NC from California.

Depending upon the ticket type the cancellation fees could be steep...and sometimes airlines offer vouchers (net of fees) instead of cash back.

OP...look at this very closely before you purchase a r/t vs one-way ticket.

However, depending on the country of departure, the airline staff may not be familiar with K1. In their RM, they show K1's as NON-immigrant, so they think a RT ticket is needed. A call to the US Embassy straightens that out

OP just make sure you actually cancel the return flight. My wife did not. And when we filed AOS, we were nervous because I've read threads on here of people having issues with that. The airline actually showed my wife boarding the flight even though she was with me. We were obviously able to prove to USCIS that my wife did not board that flight and she was with me the whole time. However, it would've slowed down the process with an unnecessary RFE. We tried calling the airline to have them change on their website where it shows my wife boarded but they said they couldn't. That said, it never wound up  being a concern for us. We were never asked about it by USCIS.

As many others have stated a R/T ticket is not a requirement. A good reason to get one (especially if the price is similar or less) is that it gives the fiance' a little breathing room when they arrive. If it turns out they spend a couple months here and realize they just can't be apart from their family or friends, or really hate it here, or their future spouse turns out to be completely different when living together versus just dating, they already have a return ticket they can use. They're not forced to stay and continue with a marriage they're having second thoughts on.

 

When my fiance arrived I handed her an envelope with two thousand dollars in it. I told her if she didn't want to go through with our wedding she could take the money and use it to get back home. She didn't need to ask my permission. I wanted her to know there wasn't any pressure to stay if she didn't really want to be here. That was a couple years ago. Thankfully she never used the money and we're still happily married. In hindsight though, it would have been easier to have just bought a R/T ticket for 85 days out or so

You can also change the date of the returning flight to a later date maybe and use it to visit later

Yes for my friend😊 I don't know why I became a E-1 holder on my profile But I'm a IR1 visa holder hahaha
