Some sources say this was an ''early draft'' that was dumped and not ''considered seriously'' due to ''legal'' matters, but if that was the case how did it make it into being an actual memo passed around through many hands? There AP reporter stated he spoke with multiple sources/agencies which confirmed; when pressed Spicer seemed to imply the memo could potentially be real, but it didn't come from the WH.

Well, I suppose they give feedback on them.. maybe the feedback was not all roses ... :P  It's a timing issue as well.. I mean they can sit on it, change it or do as they please depending on what happens with everything else I suppose. According to Trump himself they are working on an updated travel EO, so it might be a matter of not putting all of these out at once. I mean they couldn't have missed the chaos thus far.. lol

Something is quite odd. What stands out to me is that initial reporting said that Gen. Kelly had written the 11 page memo personally. The DHS is immediately now walking that back, acknowledging a 'draft' existed' but that Gen. Kelly did not write it or approve it (but that technically means someone came up with this idea didn't they?). It's almost as if someone is gunning for him.. and this is the third time he's been chucked under the bus (including yesterday by POTUS).

Quote

A DHS official told The Daily Beast that the memo the AP cited was an early, pre-decisional draft, that Kelly never approved it, and that the department as a whole never seriously considered it. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/02/17/homeland-security-on-ap-s-national-guard-absolutely-incorrect.html

Those of you from the 7 previously banned countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) who already hold visas, you might want to move up your travel plans to like... now. According to Fox News, Trump is expected to sign a new order next week. :(

Good afternoon everyone.  I have a question to people who received first Green Card or GC in general. I just got it a month ago (was applying after getting married through K1 visa) and about to visit my relatives in Ukraine. I have already tickets and Im flying on March 14th and curios about returning back stuff. Have heard from some people here that with new Trump's laws, some green card holders are taken away from planes to the USA for some additional "processing". I really don't want to go home and not to come back to my husband. If anyone have heard something about that i'd be glad for an answer. Thank you so much

I know several GC holders from countries other than the 7 who have been held up / taken for hours of questioning since the order. Odds are you'll get in, but scrutiny is super high right now and the odds of running into trouble are increased. I suspect there is a lot of chaos in DHS/CBP in general right now with all the back and forth, but it was surprising to see GC holders run into so many issues.

Surprising to see you write that "I know."  That would indicate you  know them personally.  Is that really true . . . or do you mean that you have only heard of several instances?  And just where did you 'hear' of these instances?  Do you think the instances were real; or just more of the hyper rumor mill ??

Well that's a really good message ))because I also hearing those phrases everywhere - "I know" but they don't know them personally. So, I was chatting with one girl from Uzbekistan and she said that her relatives were stopped in JFK and sat there 18 hours explaining why they are flying to US. They have GC for 10 years! She also having a friend who changed her inner Uzbekistan passport (not traveling one) to a new surname because she got married abroad and wanted to prove it. But on US border they TOLD her to show every document that she has and there was her own passport with new name which wasn't matching with GC and they have sent her home. Its weird because according to papers which are coming with GC - you don't need even to show other papers except GC when you are flying to US. So, obviously it's not Ukraine BUT Uzbekistan also not in that "banned 7 countries" and they are passing hard checking on a boarder. That's why those stories make me nervous a little bit.

Yes, I know these two personally. Also a couple people at work (I work for a large multinational company) have had this problem (on green card and also on H1B, but not from the 7 countries). The two I know are Japanese GC holders like my wife who (unlike her) have lived here for decades (since Japan has no dual citizenship, its rare for Japanese to become US citizens). At work I personally know a Pakistani citizen with green card (not one of the 7) and a Egyptian citizen with H1B (not one of the 7) who had major detain/delay scenarios (again, both eventually let in).

I'm not talking about being denied entry, but being pulled aside for a couple hours of extra screening/questioning. That is not normal in their/my experience for green card holders, however. Even the normally routine questioning people encounter has been more aggressive recently. It's not like it was before January (and may not be again, given the direction CBP is heading).
