You still have a chance to give more evidence, which is a good thing.  So just give them everything you've got to prove your relationship is true.

Because we couldn't make definite wedding plans, not knowing when we'll get the visa, we wrote up all the plans we wanted to make (what food/cake we want, where the ceremony will be, decorations, who is invited, etc.) and provided any email communications with caterers, vendors, wedding officiants, etc., that talk about our wedding plans.  We provided a lot of photos (20+ pictures from our 2nd vacation together; the first petition packet we sent had 20+ from our first vacation). We also copied pictures, screenshots from Facebook/IM and Skype, text messages, Skype subscriptions and logs, cell phone logs, etc., into a huge Word file and wrote descriptions about the pictures and conversations and printed that out - 30+ pages. We showed pictures with friends and family, communications that show how we love each other, how often we communicate (everyday), that others know about our relationship, the ways we support each other, vacation plans we were making or had together, etc.  We also provided original plane tickets/boarding passes, copies of passport pages which show stamps/visas for our vacations together - this is the most important documented proof that we traveled to be together.  We included any receipts during our travel/vacations (we didn't have many), money exchange documents, as well as pictures that showed we were at certain locations where we had a receipt (such as at an airport or grocery store).

Just take all the evidence you can give them, put it together in an organized way, and give them all information they ask for.  For anything you may not have that they ask for, write a letter of explanation to address why you don't have it. You may want to write up a timeline of your relationship and a story of how you met and have kept the relationship going, to this day.  If you have any receipts for a wedding ring, provide the originals.  Make copies of anything you provide them, for your own files.  Just to note, each packet we provided (original submission and the one taken to the embassy) was 3cm+ thick.  We may have gone overboard, but got an approval on the interview day.  Though you may not have that much info to provide, give them all you can.  Better to over-document than under-document, especially since they want more evidence.  Good luck to you all!!!

Generally is a good sign when they take your passport. Also good you turned in the requested documents. Exactly how long it will take them to process/review those papers, and also complete their own checks during the AP process varies greatly. Could be a week, 3-4 weeks, 1-2 months, or longer...

Perhaps there are some other recent Algeria approvals for K-1s here that can assist with a more accurate time line based on their AP experience. Good luck!

AP= Additional Processing is normal for people coming from MENA countries.   Back ground checks on Beneficiary (You) is the common reason.

Give it a few weeks, keeping your passport was a good sign.

Touching your file is a good sign. As far as still being in AP, I would not worry about it. The norm for a case to be in AP before contacting them is 60 days. But since they kept your passport, you sent the documents I will take a wild guess that your CEAC will change between AP and Issued in the next week to two weeks. If you see the case change between AP to ISSUED then AP, don't panic, it is normal. At the end, it will say "ISSUED"  also, notice on CEAC what it says on top  NONE IMMIGRANT VISA  or IMMIGRANTS VISA. If NIV then your visa was issued.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
