Highlighting Supporting documents

Hi everyone,

Did anyone highlight certain sections of documents they sent with their i-130 form?

I mean, for example, my bank statements that show money tansfers from my husband, statements from credit card under both our names, etc

I both cases I highlighted the exact line that showed a transfer from his bank to mine,instead of just leaving 100s of pages to sift through. With credit cards I highlighted his name and mine to show we both have cards under the same account

Basically guiding them, is that a problem? I am NOT highlighting anything in the actual forms, just the bank and credit card statements because they are a pile

We did that too, on joint account phone bills, highlighting my phone number and his. I think it's helpful for them, if you don't do too much highlighting.

Agreed .. This is perfectly fine, we also highlighted money transfers. phone calls ect.

I didn't and this is why; when files are received, they are scanned and highlighting has been known to obscure the information on a scanned document. I don't know if that is still a problem or not.

We didn't on documents we sent in but I did on the evidence I brought for the interview. I agree with Ryan H, sometimes highlighting can make it difficult to read scanned documents.

I also used the highlighter but just to point out the focus area (not completely highlighting the section) so that they don't have to go through the whole page just to see the relevant things.

If you use the light one, you should be fine though.

i found out when i did work for insurance company highlighting with yellow marker disappears with strong light taking the black ink under with it / so depends on whether the document is subject to strong light / also disappears with tiime in a file drawer

i circled items

and blacked out account numbers / they only need to see names and dates and institution

I highlighted just about every page of evidence from petition to citizenship. Furthermore I made bold notes in red Sharpie in the bottom margin such as--

"Joe transfer of $500 to Mary"

"Joint Amex account"

I highlighted and circled the words "decree absolute" on my UK divorce decree. As our divorce decrees are not signed, there have been cases where people have received RFEs on UK divorce decrees that don't look "final" or "official" enough.

Nope. Anything joint has both of our names on the top. I dont need fo highlight names. The only extra I added to anything was the names, places, and dates for photographs.

They want the evidence, so I sent it to them, but they can sift through it. Considering my CR1 took 8 months and the ROC took 6, i didnt have an issue either time.

Highlighted, circled, put post it notes and post it arrows, wrote notes right on papers - anything to direct the officer's attention to what I need them to see.

I didn't highlight as I was worried about it causing difficulty when they scanned it in. I did however include a cover sheet detailing certain transactions/dates and included individual receipts for money transfers. We're using assets for the affidavit of support so my logic was the more evidence we throw at them of where money has come from and been moved about to as well as who has access to it the less chance for a RFE.

I think I remember just making a sort of bright yellow-green highlighter "tick" next to the pertinent line.

It bothered me that there were so many pages, and after such a long wait for the CR-1 visa approval, I didn't want to chance that they might miss something.
