Since I got a driver's license and SSN without being a citizen I doubt that will be proof of citizenship.

Good luck

Yeah, I agree with the above poster. I know some undocumented persons here in NY who have both a SSN and a driver's license. It doesn't necessarily indicate that he's of legal status or a US Citizen.

He doesn't have a US passport?

Also this site says you can order them online: http://www.scdhec.gov/VitalRecords/BirthCertificates/

Hi,

Do not send his driver's license and SSN. Those things does not prove that he's a US citizen. Lots of non-US citizens have driver's licenses and SSN. If you send this in, you will only delay things further.

The South Carolina is not impossible to get unless it doesn't exist. While it might be inconvenient to get, it is possible to get. You have to get it unless the Joint Sponsor has a US passport.

Best of luck

I googled it and his birth cert can either be ordered online or through sending a letter with a check and a copy of his ID to the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control. They have birth records saved since 1915.

Don't trust what NVC says, SSN and a driver's license doesn't prove that he's a USC.

While a DL and SSN don't directly show that a person is a citizen, there are other databases that are availiable to agencies to check, otherwise no illegal immigrants with fake id would ever get deported. But some older people do not have birth certificates and can't get them. My mom doesn't have one. She has a birth card. It is literally that a paper card, the size of a credit card.

If he is that elderly, one would easily find him registered in selective service from the draft if he was born here.

Is he, by chance, Gullah?
