Notice of Potential Interview Waiver Case [Part II]

My mother's case has been resolved. It took approximately 9.5 months. The welcome letter and the green card showed up last night on her mailbox. No emails, no texts.

She is very happy and with a lot of travel plans. I just wish I could go with her.

We sent all the information required in our first package back in September. There were no RFE at all.

We contacted tier 2 representative twice, We contacted Ombudsman once with no answer. We put 1 service request but no useful information came out of that.

I am not sure, if the service request or contacting the ombudsman helped at all, but I would recommend you do them to put pressure to USCIS. Remember, they get paid to deal with you and your issues.

I have infinite thanks to all of your who commented on this thread. Yes, they were some nagging and a lot of whining from some of you but that's OK, because in between all that whining there was some very useful information about the USCIS process. Thanks to your comments, I feel like I have a better understanding about the whole process now than 9 months ago. I also feel that I can give a better advise to friends and family if they ever have to deal with USCIS. I have to thank you for that.

In addition, I want to encourage those who are new or who don't visit the forums too often to do your homework and read the prior comments. You will find a wealth of information and it will help you have a better expectations about your case. Read before you ask a redundant question.

Lastly, I want to leave with a quote by Saint Fracis de Sales.

"Have patience with all things, But, first of all with yourself."

Congrats. Looks like the no text, no emails are becoming a pattern

Mom arrived with a B visa as a tourist with no intentions to stay.

I think the process is very similar to the K visas. We submit the i130 and i485 at the same time just like the K visas do.

The process is supposed to have an interview within 6 months, but we got "lucky" with the NPIW.

Sorry about the above quote and no text....I posted too fast. I am seeing a few more cases on here from student or tourist visas that are getting interview waivers. It seems they may have changed the policy on that since from what I have read those kinds of visa adjustments always have interviews.

Hi everyone,

I haven't been active on this thread but I've been reading it almost everyday since I got the NPIW. Wanted to let you know that I got my Welcome to the USA notice today in the mail! :D My AOS NOA1 is dated September 5, 2014 and my NPIW is dated December 30, 2014. I didn't get any text or email and my USCIS status online just updated to "My card was picked up by the United States Postal Service". I just checked the tracking number and it says that I should get my green card tomorrow!

Good luck to everyone still waiting for approval.

Wow that is awesome! Our timelines are similar and our NPIW letter was dated the same as yours. I hope we will hear good news soon!

I made a call today to the USCIS to see if they had any information on the RFE I had sent in. Of course the tier 1 agent started telling me my case was in Nebraska...so I stopped her, telling her I know it's in Chicago since that is where I got the RFE from and sent it back to. So she sent me to a Tier 2. Not much more helpful. Just said they don't show the RFE as received yet and it can take up to 60 days until they process it. Granted I only sent it in a couple weeks ago, but I was hoping to get lucky. Now we are wondering if we should file for a new EAD or just hope for the best. We are right at 11 months into the whole process.

We're in the same boat as you regarding renewal of EAD. Johan's expires in November, so we're almost to the 120 days mark. With an outstanding RFE to settle, we're thinking about not doing the renewal. it's a gamble, like just about everything else with this process. :(

I would have started the EAD renewal as soon as I was allowed but then I was seeing approvals left and right for April 14 filers and thought it would have been my turn soon. Fast forward to last week when my EAD ran out, no GC, but I did have an expedition request on the EAD renewal (filed about 60 days out). Since the renewal is free and really there was not a lot of paperwork to file, I would file as soon as the 120 days is here. Also, since it is free, you must file by snail-mail, not online, so keep that in mind when calculating time and deciding when to send the application in.

My sister's approval letter came yesterday, dated June 25. She filed from Houston TX on July 10, 2015.

She got RFE for I-864A back in Sept 2014 and it was replied within a month.

Her online status has never changed since RFE response was received.

Got my welcome letter in the post yesterday, dated June 25!

To recap: NOA1 April 28, 2014. NPIW July. Finally got an RFE April 29 this year asking for proof of bonafide marriage and copies of me and the wife's state IDs (no medical). Now two months later, fourteen months almost to the day since filing, I get the approval notice.

Like a few other recent posters, I didn't get any email/text updates, and the case status online still says the April 29 RFE. I spoke to Tier 2 today to check if my card had been sent and if I could get a tracking number, and she said she could see that it hasn't been produced yet, and that the online system has been acting up, perhaps accounting for the lack of status updates. I also renewed my EAD recently, and got no online updates when that was approved and mailed a week or so ago.

Even though I haven't posted much, I've checked this thread often. So thanks to all you regular posters for the unwitting support, and good luck to everyone who is still waiting.
