Im a US citizen of Syrian origin, Im currently trying to bring my Syrian Fiancee to the US. Here are some things to think about.

1) The US embassy in Syria is closed! so he won't get a visa from syria.

2) Im meeting with my fiancée in Lebanon or Jordan or Turkey, we haven't decided.

3) Seems like sooner or later he is going to have to bribe someone to get out, so just have him do it now and go into one of those countries, go see him there, then apply for him while he waits there.

4) Its a good idea you meet your fiancee in person, this isn't about paper work. its the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with.

5) Best of luck, i know if feels impossible!!! I'm right there with you

"Not only would me going to his country put me at a high risk of injury, death, or abduction and torture, but my fiance simply cannot leave his country because of these new laws, and even if he could he would face all the same risks I just mentioned traveling more than a mile or two from his front doorstep. This essentially makes meeting in a third location impossible." - Original post

Dear, if you're not going to bother reading the whole post then please don't bother responding. I need real, serious answers.

Real answer. It is a bad idea to get married to a person you have never seen before. Your love should be strong enough to take the risk of meeting in a 3rd country before going through with the petition.

I don't see how you have a waiver-able case since many before you go elsewhere and meet. Ad seeing how Syria is right now a never meet I don;t think will even fly.

You saying he is in danger of going miles from his home you are saying than he has no chance to make it to a Visa interview which will be in another country.

Jordan is lovely place you can sure meet at.

Also to waive you have to demonstrate you both have made every attempt to get to each other. He with Visitor visa attempts and you also. You have data showing why you can't go to Syria but let me ask bow many countries can a Syrian go to without a Visa that you could meet him at.

The issue seems to be making multiple trips. They just want to make one.

I don't know they want to make any. They just want a waiver, and that is most unlikely. Serious answer.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I have seen more dubious cases approved. He will have to make one journey no matter what

Again, if you can't read the original post don't bother replying. He can get out of the country, however every time he travels he's in serious danger, and multiply that by 2 when you consider him going back home afterwards. So, that being said we're not trying to get out of financial costs or meeting each other. In fact all we want to do is be together, however every time he travels he's putting his life at very extreme risk on so many levels, like I said we're just trying to minimize the chances of him getting blown to pieces, or abducted and having his head cut off. Frankly I didn't ask for any relationship counselors, I asked for input on a procedural question. Thank you to anyone who sincerely answered that question, and to anyone who thinks they know better about my relationship or can't read the entire first post, don't be a waste of time.

You can always apply and see.

I do not know how long the checks would take if he was approved for a visa. What would be the plan for this quite possibly lengthy period?

Worst they will do is say no and you will be out the initial filing fee, the costs of all the documents he has to mail you from Syria, and the time. Hardship waivers are rarely granted. You will need proof, not just hearsay, that he cannot leave the country or that leaving the country will present a serious risk to his life. You will also need proof (not so hard for you) that you cannot travel to Syria to meet with him. For you the travel advisories and recent news stories will probably be enough. What proof does he have that it would be a danger to his life if he leaves the country?

It is very true he will most likely have AP for weeks if not months. He will need a place to live between the interview and visa ready time (weeks, months, years). What is he planning to do in regard to this?

Your best bet is to finance a place for him to stay in Jordan. It is definitely not expensive. If someone in Mexico can live by themselves on $350/month including rent, I doubt Jordan will be more expensive. Work two jobs or borrow money so you can visit him. Your attitude in the situation seems defeatist. As crazy as it sounds, living in a warzone does not qualify for immediate hardship waiver. You need to meet him. Problem solved. It sounds odd that you are avoiding any plausible scenario to do so, considering you want to spend the rest of your life with him. This process is agonizing. Patience is the most important thing you need right now.

Sorry if it sounded like we are against you. I understand the situation and going thru the same process as you. Yes, Syria is very dangerous, so dangerous I can't sleep at night sometimes worrying about my fiancee. Ive asked about the hardship wavier and people didn't advise me to go down that route. I want to give myself and fiancée the best chance so I am going to make sure my application is filled to the best possible way. Which city does he live in? want kinda work does he do?

Hardship waivers are rarely given, as others have stated.

Your evidence may be compelling enough to warrant an expedite, but not a hardship waiver, I'm afraid.

I'd recommend what everyone else is saying: Meet in Jordan, have him live there while this processes.

I also recommend filing for an expedite after you've met; it won't delay the K1 processing, but if it's approved things will move quickly. The expedite will help the case move through the Petition approval time is the expedite request is approved. I don't know how much it will help once it reaches the embassy stage though.
