I am glad they are raising the fees. I am I Bill Gates, you might ask. The answer, dear friends, is no. I am not, I do not have spare change to throw around, also I am not a dude. So being Bill Gates is pretty much ruled out.

Then why am I advocating higher bills? For the following reasons:

1. US immigration has one of the cheapest fees in the world, other countries like Australia charge way more than USCIS. Australia charges somewhere in the vicinity of $6000 for its immigration fees. So, USCIS might actually NEED this money, as opposed to just raising the fee for fun and giggles.

2. It might encourage USCIS to hire MORE PEOPLE, to do the job faster. With sudden increase in their workload for various reasons, more people are desperately needed to do the job. USCIS employees are paid mainly from the fees we pay, so they do need the money for more peeps.

You go USCIS, do what you need to do to deal with extra workload. P.s., I love your customer support line, phone is picked up immediately and answered in the most polite way possible. We need that prompt service from NVC where spending an hour of one's life chewing the nails, listening to same muzak over and over again and waiting for a person to take your call is considered a lucky break.

About 2 or 3 years ago the immigrant visa cost was lowered from $404. That was under the impression there would be a green card fee. I hope the fees are being raised to provide more people for the NVC and for their contract with the call center.

Please when you post understand it is the VISA fees that are being raised. That has NOTHING to do with the USCIS. That is the DOS and the NVC.

Affidavit of Support Review (only when reviewed domestically)

$120

I'm confused by this. Does this effect filing for AOS and mean there will be an additional $120 required? Or does this effect other processes entirely?

Call me a massive cynic but it seems possible that increased fees might just not lead to improved service? :P

The price increase won't affect immigrant visa beneficiaries who have already paid the lower fees, even if they interview after the December cut-off date. This affects non-immigrants only. Putting that out there because I tripped up on that one last night and had a mini-freak-out.

We haven't paid for IV fee yet. We're still waiting for it to be invoiced. Do we have to pay the new fee? I'm sorry, Im just soo confused!! :( Thanks

If you're invoiced on or after September 12th, you will need to pay the new fees. Any time before that, then no.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered

October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

Just to clarify this fee increase of $240 to $265 is charged to my fiancé correct? It is nothing to do with the fee of $340 we send with our I129F correct?

Correct. This is a change in the visa processing fees. The K-1 visa processing fee is changing from $240 to $265. The I-129F form filing fee is still currently $340.

Does not have anything to do with filing for adjustment of status. There is no fee for the I-864 that is submitted with the I-485.

The I-864 that those seeking an immigrant visa must provide to the NVC will have their fee increased from $88 to $120.
