My husband had his citizenship interview this afternoon and he passed.  The center was busy and they were running a little behind so we had to wait about an hour past his scheduled time.  Fortunately a woman from the office made several announcements so we all knew that we would be interviewed soon. They called him in about a minute after her last announcement.  Most people were taking about 30 minutes but he was out with his aporoval in what seemed like 10.  I was pleasantly surprised at how quick it was.

He couldn't remember all 6 questions they asked, but he remembered these four: the capital if FL, who signs laws, who the US fought in WW2, and what an amendment is.  They had him write some things and then went through his N400 form and finally told him he passed and that he should go join his spouse in the waiting room.

Since they were running behind, they told him he'd have to wait for his oath letter by mail, so we headed home for a celebratory lunch with my mom.

Congratulations to both of you.  It's so great to see two people be able to live together, no matter their gender.  Truly these are the best of times.

Hello, I'm so happy to discover this topic. I was looking for a case similar to mine but it's really hard to find. My husband is USC and I'm from West Africa. I will do normally my interview in Senegal. We sent our I-130 yesterday. We met currently 3 times  in 1 year: 2 in US and on in my home country. And we have already book our 2 next trips. So we will have 5 meetings: 2 in US and 3 in my home place before our interview. I'm excited and scared at the same time. Scared because I found no experience similar to mine : have to do the process from an African, Muslim and not allowed gay country . We got married in US before I came back in my home place. I have  a B1/B2 visa. I'm comfortable with the CO who is a USC but there is always local member in the staff at the ambassy. I wonder how will be their reactions. I plan to share my journey and I wish  it will be helpful for other people specially west African gay people married to USC . Your advices are welcomed.

Hello and Congratulations. I don't believe that you will have a problem. Same sex visas are handled slightly differently depending on the country. My spouse is from Kenya. We live in Colorado now. The local staff do not get to see or know any particulars, just that it is a Visa. He had his Visa interview in a small separate room with a Consular Officer. He was taken back through the security door into the inner sanctum of the Immigrant Visa area. They had him sit down, offered him refreshment..water I think or something.

I was not allowed to accompany him, but maybe you can find out if your husband can join you?

I don't think you will have a problem at all seeing that you married AND went back on a B1/B2 which is great

Sorry, I forgot to say that the initial intake is with the local staff...just the DS-160 Confirmation page (not sure what the I-130) entails, your passport, photos. That's it.!! None of the local staff know anything if you are same sex or not.

It has taken us a little longer since DOMA.  I am surprised we don't have more members in this forum.  It's definitely a scary process for same-gender couples involving different countries with different thoughts on same sex marriage.  Two people really have to want to be together to endure the fears of family and society norms.  Let's hope, as pioneers of this new law, we will help bring courage to others.
