Just wanted to share with everyone.

Last October I purchased a Magic Jack from Walmart for $40

I set it up on my fiance's laptop in Turkey when I was visiting, it issues you a US phone number

I call him whenever I want without dialing country codes as if I was dialing in the US, not even dialing 1

and he can call my cell, home or whatever number I have, whereever I am.

We are on the phone day and night;)

It saves all the headache with sometime slow internet lines and it saved us a lot of money.

You only pay $40

In case you didnt know, might wanna try

You can also set it up and mail it to your other half;)

:)))

Just a reminder that there is an annual fee for MJ. So if you are still using it after 12 months, you'll need to pay another $30 (or so), or it will stop working.

Small price to pay though.

WOWIE! thanks so much. i did wonder about it. is there no monthlty fees? and is the set up easy? i am a bit of a spazz on the pc =/

I've been using it for over a year now and there are no monthly fees. The setup is pretty straight forward. It was fairly simple.

Also, I buy international minutes, which are a good price through magicjack, so I can call his cell phone when needed.

Plus when buying your intenational minutes you can assign a second number to associate with the account so I have my cell phone added on there and I call a Florida number, dial the number and it re-routes my call. I use this when we are not near our magicjacks and I need to call him.

The Magic Jack is a godsend, si man. Mrs. T-B. gave several to her family members, and their use has saved everyone untold zillions of dollars in international phone calls.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

International rates depend on the country. For my wife's country, Vietnam, MagicJack is 30 cents a minute. She can use other services like V247 for less than a 5 cents a minute.

Anyway, MagicJack is extremely cool if your spouse or fiancee has an internet connection. They don't even need particularly fast service since MagicJack doesn't need high bandwidth, though a dial-up internet connection won't be fast enough.

Ok, does anyone know if it will work in Russia for Sveta to call me (and her family to call her after the move)? And what if there is no landline phone, but a high speed Internet card on a laptop pc, will it work??? Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Of course. I get 12 cents a minute on MJ, but I don't use the international dialing primarily. Certainly if I had to use it more, I'd hope to find something cheaper like you. :)

You dont need a landline. If you have high speed that is great. It works better that way
