  1. Thanks

Thank you for your response! I found the contact information for WhatsApp on visitukrainetoday...and they told me that if I come with a negative PCR test that was taken 48 hours before entering the country, then I won’t need to download the app or go into isolation. So that’s a big relief! I can have the test taken at JFK before departure. It takes 2-3 hours to get results, according to what I’ve read. Big relief.

They are not strict like in the US at all when it comes to western foreigners.  If asked what is the reason for your visit, just say "tourism".  Best not to volunteer any information. A couple of side notes, winter is not the time of year to be visiting Ukraine.  May/June would be the best time of year.  Also, if I understand correctly, your fiancé is Russian and of military age.  He is likely going to have a difficult time if even possible to get into Ukraine.

Yes, I agree, passport control is not very strict here in Ukraine. But you should make some preparations. All travelers should have insurance that covers covid-19 and you need to do testing upon arrival ( there is a laboratory at Boryspil airport)

https://visitukraine.today/ Our government created this website for tourists. Very helpful. You can also buy your insurance here.

I had my PCR Covid test done 72 hours prior to boarding the flight but no one asked for it in Paris nor Boston.

    Hi,

Yes, Ukraine's borders are open.  They evaluate the level of risk of incoming visitors based on countries.   US is high risk for them, so visitors will either have to show a negative result PCR test within 48 hours before arrival, or quarantine.  There is also the option of taking the PCR test in Ukraine, and one facility is at KBP airport.  Cost is about $60 US.  You will need to quarantine until you get the results of the test.

SIM cards in Ukraine are about $5-10 per month, depending on carrier and options.  Data only SIM cards are $5-7.  Adding unlimited voice and text adds about $3 .

For your boyfriend, the best option for him is if he has relatives in Ukraine that can invite him.  If not, he can try to enter, but he can get denied.  I am not sure if it will be easier or harder for him to try to cross the land border between Kharkiv and Belgorod.  Ask him to look into car services that cross between those cities.  They deal with the border crossing every day and would have a better idea about his circumstances.

If you guys get to Ukraine, I would recommend staying in the Eastern part. Russian is spoken mainly there over Ukrainian.  Or Odessa.  Cost of living in Odessa is cheaper in the winter than summer.  You may even find an apartment for 3 months for the same cost as 1 month in the summer.

Thank you! That eases my mind. He actually isn’t from Italy, but we really want to go there to be married, because I have familial roots there and we thought it would be special.

My concern is that because I’ve been a student, I don’t have many assets. But what I can do, like adding him as medical power of attorney and opening joint accounts, I will start working on now. Is this sufficient for now?

Thank you so much! I was just scared that it would cause them to be suspicious, but now that I know it has nothing to do with the evaluation during my boyfriends interview, I feel so much better lol. My OCD mind creates problems where there aren’t any! Haha

The B2 refusal rate in FY 2019 was only about 15% for Russia.  As stated by @Jorgedig, he needs to be honest and prepared to show evidence of strong ties to his country.  Good luck...

All of the Executive Order from Trump have CLEARLY stated that spouses of US citizens were not affected.  There has been no indication that Cr-1 visas will be affected in the future.

Well it doesn't apply to you.   Putting on "Hold" IR5 and Family preferences and trimming some old programs is cutting the 2021 estimates in half.

    CR1/IR1 isn't affected.

I can’t speak to the particulars about the workings of the visa, but I just want to say that while whatever you decide is your prerogative, you really should consider how much you are about to invest in a woman who has already been unfaithful to you. You will be signing your life away to support this person. Just keep that in mind. All the best to you.

Honey.... from a womans perspective here....I need to say something. For an engaged woman to get pregnant by another man is more than just cheating. Are there no more chances in life for you where you can't POSSIBLY find another woman to love and respect you? Run now while you can! For so many reasons. Stop the bleeding while you can. You will be raising another mans child because whether you like it or not, she's now a "package deal".

If you haven't married yet, then your affidavit of support is at least a year from now.  If you have a good job making well more than the minimum requirement, no worries.  You're putting the cart before the horse.

No change Trump has suggested in the past, changed anything about spouse or stepchildren immigration except a perceived tightening of financial sponsorship criteria.  I can't imagine a failure to carve out immediate families of US Citizens.

No reason to be appalled.  Typically there has been no discussion regarding any changes to visas for spouses and children.
