One of my largest beefs with this administration is how hamhanded they are with this type of change. They seem uninterested or even energized by the disruption and worry the process of these types of changes bring.
They either don't know how to implement policy or they don't care.

I just requested a letter from our health benefit center. They will provide me a personalize letter stating that my spouse will be eligible to be added to my health insurance via life event.

The White House proclamation outlines the types of insurance acceptable and talks about showing the proof of the ability to obtain insurance within 30 days. We will need to wait on the State Department to provide the actual policy and guidance to the interviewer. I doubt this will go into affect Nov 3.

90DayFinancier reacted to yuna628 in Elijah Cummings dead at 68
He had been through a lot physically so not surprising. His death was unexpected to some as he was a very private man, but word travels fast in medical circles after the fact. He had recently been put in a very good hospice program and was fighting a very serious issue that may have never resolved from previous hospitalizations. My own theory on the subject is that he should have picked a better hospital....  It was largely the reason why he needed help with his mobility. He continued working right up until his death yesterday even from hospice.

90DayFinancier reacted to WaterLeaf in USCIS Begins Producing Security-Enhanced Travel Documents
To prevent secure document tampering, counterfeiting, and fraud, we will begin producing on Oct. 24 a new security-enhanced U.S. travel document, which is a booklet that looks similar to a U.S. passport and serves dual purposes. The travel document can serve in place of:
Form I-327, Permit to Reenter the United States: Lawful permanent residents use the Reentry Permit to return from temporary travel outside of the United States and, in some cases, may use a Reentry Permit for travel in place of a passport; and Form I-571, Refugee Travel Document: Those with refugee or asylum status use a Refugee Travel Document if they wish to temporarily travel outside of the United States and, in some cases, may use a Refugee Travel Document for travel in place of a passport. The new travel document will include a variety of secure features:
Redesigned booklet cover Four montages containing three images, each of notable U.S. architecture, used throughout the booklet A combination of first-, second- and third-level security features (overt, covert and forensic) Overt is something you can see with the eye, such as the central image of the Statue of Liberty. Covert is something that requires a tool, such as a magnifying glass, to see fine detail artwork. Forensic is something that requires laboratory examination.  Prior versions of the travel document will remain valid until their expiration date.

I think from a personal financial standpoint have a minimum coverage like a high deductible or tourist plan to transition, then look at a regular policy, ACA policy  (open enrollment runs Nov 1 to Dec 15) or an employers plan if they are going right to work.

From an interviewee standpoint: I don't see how they are going to have this implented on Nov 3rd. Nothing in this administration moves that fast. If you are stressed, get the high deductible "catastrophic" plan now and cancel it once he arrives because that is specifically addressed in the so called "proclamation".

Mattis was hired to do a job. If we accept that the president has a plan and a vision, then obviously Mattis' was never going to be able to do that job effectively. That has been a common theme at the white house. The question really is, why hire all these "best minds" if they don't align with what you are doing to begin with. When has that ever worked? It's the reason for the revolving door this administration seems to have.

Excerpts from the soon to be published "Holding the Line: Inside Trump's Pentagon with Secretary Mattis"
How Jim Mattis, “iced out” and blindsided by Trump, finally concluded the president was weakening the nation.

The retired general went to great lengths to align the Pentagon's message with the president’s, Guy Snodgrass recounts in "Holding the Line: Inside Trump's Pentagon with Secretary Mattis," which will be published on Oct. 29. But Mattis' public solidarity crumbled in private as his frustration grew at Trump's dismissal of allies and shoot-from-the-hip pronouncements, writes Snodgrass, a retired Navy commander and fighter pilot and Mattis' former speechwriter at the Pentagon.
    ....
"Trump’s tweets created chaos in the Pentagon," writes Snodgrass, who was detailed to work for Mattis early in his tenure. The damage from the transgender pronouncement "was a terrific example of how an ill-informed, and ill-considered, tweet from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue could result in a strategic defeat."
“Mattis described the lack of a cohesive White House strategy in more colorful terms," he adds. "He labeled the situation as one where the administration was holding itself hostage. He formed his right hand into a make-believe pistol and pointed it toward his temple, saying ‘No one move or the hostage gets it!’”

Yep. Remember the SCOTUS ruled that the government cannot compel someone to obtain health insurance and the whole argument against the ACA was big government telling people what they can and cannot do. Funny how things change...

With or without Trump, the immigration restrictionist have a foot hold in Washington policy and Friends in high places. I am sure this policy is coming at the directive of Steven Miller, it has his fingerprints all over it. You can't get a visa because you are not insured, you can't get insurance because you are not a resident. Brilliant in it's Machiavellian glory.

As expected, whenever a hardliner rule was set out to curb legal immigrants. You can see a bunch of elite members here who are done or almost done with their journey, gathering and chanting the rule is reasonable. I'm not going to reply or read any of you people replies, so don't waste your time. This forum is used to be good and filled with tolerant members, now it became a favorite gathering place of Trump's cult. Excuse for my bad English, I'm not from your 1st countries.

I read this on the plane home. It's not really about toxic masculinity, which I thought was a cheap way to get hits on the page -- it's more about moral courage. The interesting point I think is about the "sovereign man" and how dangerous it is to place too much power in one person's hands. I'll read her book about sovereign masculinity, which is a concept I hadn't heard of before.
