I’m aware. We are adjusting from K1/K2 visas that’s why I mentioned them. I do not have assets.

1st comes the approval of the EAD/AP then the actual receipt in mail. We got approved about 2 weeks after biometrics, and received card about 10 days thereafter. Here's hoping you don't have a long wait now!

~ Topic moved from K1 forum to Moving to the US & your New Life in America as this is related to a marriage process, not immigration  ~

Just to note, it depends on a state. We had a religious ceremony (NY state) and it was must to get a marriage license before we had the ceremony. In fact it’s illegal for a religious officiant to conduct a marriage ceremony without a marriage license. Not sure how many other states have that, but it’s a thing in NY.

You HAVE TO get married through the court. Otherwise there is no legal marriage. The church portion of it is just your preference.

Like I said, filing those other forms concurrently with the I-485 is free.

I most cases, they are approved long before the AOS.

As already stated, if you are filing the I131 and the I765 concurrent with an AOS I485 application then the fee for those forms is waived, you only have to pay the $1225 for the I485 and biometrics.  I agree, why not fill them out and send them in especially if starting to work is a major goal.

    Good Luck!

Thanks -  the letter arrived a couple of days later for us.  It was for a document that I'm pretty sure we submitted, but it's easy just to upload another copy.
Tip for others -  when logging on to upload today I see that the details of the RFE were added 3 days after the original email notification to the information for our case.  I didn't think to check there again while waiting for the physical letter - had only checked immediately after receiving the email and saw nothing.

Since you mentioned that you do not have a job, I believe your chances of getting approved for a tourist visa are almost none.

I apologize if this is not the news your looking for but if your family has substantial assets and stable jobs that can help you to show how you don’t have an intent to immigrate and only to visit.  But that again getting an appointment for the embassy as people pointed out can take a number of years, maybe you can use this time to gain some skills and possibly obtain a job to help your tourist visa case.

    Good luck.

Thank you, I already found out through the uscis website that I don’t actually have to complete the full medical, I just need to go to an approved surgeon and get my vaccinations done and get them to fill out the medical form for vaccinations to say I have completed it.

Hi Lyndaa, we went through the K1 visa route, and my then fiance didn't have to do another medical. However, he did receive all of the required vaccines at the time of his medical.

AJ2019 got a reaction from Timona in B1/B2 Renewal Denied, Can MIL enter with current valid B1/B2
Sorry, if I misspoke. She is my mother in law not biological mother, her son, my husband, is a conditional green card holder as of April 2021 (I think I mentioned one year before, and was in error. He received his EAD Jan. 2021). As far as I know, as a GC holder he cannot sponsor her until he’s a citizen. I, as a daughter in law, USC, do not qualify to petition for her - at least from what I heard. So, I think the earliest we can apply for her GC, given the current time frames, will probably be in 3-4 years. Jan 2024 is the earliest when we would be able apply for his citizenship. I’m assuming it takes a year, but it’s anyone guess, I suppose.

Btw, at that time we would be petitioning both of his parents. The baffling part for us is that does FIL get his visa renewal approved (a couple months ago) and MIL doesn’t and they are husband and wife and live in same house. 🧐. If intent to immigrate based on familiar relationship, it should apply equally to both parents, I would assume, not one over the other, which makes the decision arbitrary imo.
