Try being broke and not working with a seriously sick spouse in the USA. You will understand his situation. This is not Europe with many social nets to fall back on. Both comments you’ve made come across very judgmental perhaps inadvertently.

Clearly you are not familiar with job opportunities in general, and for non-native Americans in particular, on tribal land/reservations. What does it help to have no income at all?

i guess everyone is different but if I was so sick, and at home near family, I wouldn’t want my husband to be stuck there jobless to “look after” me. Rather be setting up for when I’m better and we can move on with our lives. Or saving enough that coming to live with me isn’t a burden/need to use welfare.

The OP has already stated that both interviews had occurred, one by themselves, and one with the spouse.  Their real questions seems to be why after 3+ months, there is still no decision.

@Vikingoutwest that is a pretty accurate account! I remember the whoop whoop  It feels so good to be done!

The whole thing was a logistical mess getting in -- how can they not expect 220 people + 1+ guests each, and ONE metal detector NOT to be a massive bottleneck?!

I arrived about the same time as you and had to wait 3 hours to get in the building. The only other thing I noticed is that as I was getting in, some people were already leaving with their naturalization certificates, so it looked like they maybe had an earlier ceremony (so 2 batches of oath people). I think that helped everyone fit into the auditorium by the time we got in (our ceremony ended up being at around 12:15pm).

Appointment was at 2pm. Was seen at 5:30 pm.

As I got green card through marriage, IO glanced at birth certificates of my USA born children with my ex-wife and was satisfied that marriage was bonafide.  Asked me a few questions from N-400 about criminal and political activities.

Went over the affiliations  I had had.over the years (professional and political).

    Did the civics test.

I studied for it it during the additional 3 hour wait by downloading official USCIS civics test app and got all Possible questions right on app.    In those days there weren’t security guards haranguing peole to not play with their phones.

Answered  6 out of 6 civics questions correctly during interview.

He started the English test but I pointed out  I was exempt.

Then he asked me for passport photos. I didn’t bring any.  He said normally he would take the photos but his digital camera was broken. (Note that as of 2020, San Jose office set up has interviewees take biometrics in the interview waiting area).  He told me to bring passport photos the next day.  Which I did.

Lined up outside.  Was asked if I had traveled between interview and oath. Yes I had.  Was asked if I still met the physical presence and continuous residency requirements.

Naturalization certificate used my photos from my 2017-03 biometrics appointment.

They will ask her what she does for a living (it's a standard question) but that should be the end of it. Nothing wrong with a stay at home parent.

I had the cash because I just got my motorcycle license, and I wanted to buy a motorcycle.
I don't think it's illegal to carry cash of that amount.

Junior-sfo reacted to kc2177 in N400 Interview Experience in Los Angeles
    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share my N400 interview experience with you all. I Was hoping that it would be a combined I751 and N400 interview since my I751 has been virtually untouched for two years (filed in Feb 2018, haven't even received biometrics for this) and I requested that they be adjudicated together in my N400 app; but if you read on, you'll see that that's not what happened ! I filed my N400 in early May 2019. I got the interview notice right before Christmas and got scheduled for the end of Jan 2020. So not a short wait, but still not as long as some other parts of the country.

I had my interview in downtown Los Angeles. Got there 10 mins before the scheduled interview time because traffic and parking was a nightmare. Waited about 20 mins to be called to the window for photo/fingerprints. Was told to go to another room on the same floor. In total, my husband and I waited for a little over an hour. I didn't think I would be nervous, but the wait and the cold fluorescent lighting/bleak nature of government facilities, plus the fact that they were playing the impeachment hearings so loudly just made everything feel insufferable and I just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. Anyways, I finally get called and my husband walked up with me only to be told to wait in the lobby. I'm starting to think that this isn't a good sign, but remembered reading other applicants' experiences where the spouse doesn't necessarily have to be in the room for the I751 to be approved, so I though maybe that was the case with me. We go into the IO's room and I see my file with the I751, so I'm relieved since online it says its in NBC in Missouri since June 2019. We immediately hit it off and had a great, casual conversation; a lot of it had nothing to do with the interview or immigration. The amount of evidence and stuff I brought with me was bigger than my actual USCIS case file, but the IO didn't look at a single document other than my passport and DL 😮

So about 40 minutes in, the N400 interview was completed, easy breezy-- just your standard asking the yes/no questions on the app, doing the civics/english test, etc. And towards the end, we were talking about the oath ceremony coming up in a month and how I should be able to make that one. The IO was about to print out the form that says I passed and am recommended for approval; I then asked him if this means that the I751 was good to go. He then looked surprised (even though the I751 application I submitted was sitting right in front as the first page of my case folder) and said that he didn't know that it was a combo case . Anyways he said that he would give the I751 file to another officer right away to look at, but that everything looks good with him. I offered to provide updated and new evidence of my marriage to him, but he said that he didn't need it since everything looked good and my husband was here, etc... basically through our conversations, he was able to tell that our marriage was real. I asked if he knew the timeline, but unfortunately, he's not sure. So the form says "a decision can't be made" and I'm slightly bummed, but also relieved that half of the battle is over and that it was a nice and pleasant experience with the IO. I guess there are different levels of IOs so some can only approve one type of application and there are others that can do both?? Maybe he was more junior and I751s are more of a senior thing? No clue. I'm wondering if I should've led with asking if the I751 would be adjudicated during the interview, then maybe he would've been able to take care of that first for me? Many post mortem thoughts in my head!

So it's been a few days now and nothing has updated online and am stuck waiting for the I751. I was praying and hoping that this wouldn't happen to me, but it is what it is and I'm resigned to the fact that there's nothing I can really do now but to just wait; just hoping for the best and that I don't get called back for yet another interview. I was hoping that I could be a citizen before March so I could vote in the primaries in CA, but probably not. Anyways, I hope this was informative to someone out there!

On 24 February 2013, my wife and I began our visa/citizenship journey by filing for a fiance visa.  After suffering the incredible bureaucracy of the visa, green card and naturalization processes, my wife was finally sworn in as a US citizen on 22 January 2019.  We twice suffered the disappointment of having to provide additional evidence of our relationship, but for the most part it was submitting the forms and waiting for the results.  One thing in our favor towards the end was that my wife was eligible for an expedited citizenship due to the fact that I was transferred to an overseas assignment for the US Government.  It sped up her citizenship process by about six months to a year.  I cannot express enough my appreciation to the VisaJourney web site and all the site's participants for getting us through and over all the hurdles of obtaining my wife's entry to the US and eventually her citizenship.  To all who are beginning this journey take heart and have patience.  The bureaucracy seems daunting, but just keep submitting those forms and applications and it will all come together in the end.  Your fellow VisaJourney members will arm you with everything you need to succeed.  Best of luck to all in their visa journey.

They simply test your ability to read and write English for the reading and writing section. You read a short sentence then they tell you a  sentence to write. So you should practice your English if that's not something you're strong in.

@Anum Fahed Hi. Here are some points:
Pending i751 will probably be processed first during your N400 interview so don't worry about it, just have all your documents with you, It's best to mention all addresses even if outside the US, It's best to mention all education and work history, even if outside the US, Since you didn't go outside US, you don't have to mention any trips before that as this question is very specific.  Wishing you all the best. I am sure some senior members will validate the information you need.

Maybe, jus maybe it’s not fraud or ill intention related..

Is your family home suitsbile for the additional guests? Do the children know of you/like you? Is the ex-wife pressuring the children to not stay with you during their visits and your husband mearly accomodating her?  Or is he just keen to have quality one on one with them for the duration of their stay, after all a week every six months isn’t much time together... So many variables when looking at maturer children within family merger..

the childrens green card and potential loss of if really really isn’t your concern if you yourself have minimal contact with the children and they’re more than permitted to file for their mother down the track if they qualify.. I wouldn’t worry about that part.

maybe sit down with hubby, ask him why they don’t stay with you during visits etc.. if it then seems off, seek marriage guidance or divorce,

From what I have read it’s a discretionary item - meaning that it’s up to the officer that Interviews you - suggest you have a good explanation and explain the circumstances and that you have not failed to pay every month and have no intention of not completing payments...
